Hi all I have 2 armies for the ACW based for Volley & Bayonet. I have changed the basing to cm instead of inches so a brigade of infantry are based on a 3x3cm base. Alter of freedom have a brigade base of 6x3cm. Do you think that I should change the scale of Alter of freedom or can I use the ranges in the rules as writen? Any idéas regarding this? I don't want to put two of my brigades together to form one brigade I AoF since that would split my armies to half as many units. Regards/ Conny |

I play AoF and don't see a problem, especially since you have both armies. I would just leave the scale of the game as it is and play that way. You could if space was limited shrink the scale, but really I don't see a need. |

Thank you for your reply Thomas. I was thinking that way my self but needed someone to kick me in the right direction, thanks for the boot :) |

I would absolutely just stick to the same base scale in the game without making any adjustments. At 1"=150+ yards and one turn being about an hour, the overall game scale is fairly vague anyway. |

The only real issue you will have is adapting scenarios. Your armies cover half the frontage their rules expect (3 widths versus 6 widths). So, for example, at Gettysburg if 3rd corps should be deployed from Little Round Top to the nearer half of Cemetary ridge, in scale that distance might be 24 widths. But you only have 12 widths of troops to cover it. How will you deal with the gaps? An easy way is to simply have a "zone of control" that extends each base's flank by 1.5 widths. So two bases with a base width between have no gap – it is covered by the ZOC. |

6mmACW is Greg the author. I'd take his comment as gospel. Thanks John |

Extra Crispy I totally understand your reasoning and was thinking about it all in that way. My initial thought was to cut all in half since my brigade stands are half of the intended brigade size. I like your idea of a ZOC! So my mind is set no change of scale and will probably try the ZOC rule :) thanks all for your input in this matter. I was in a stand still but am now looking forward to crunch on. |

You could also cut movement trays 6x3. Put your troops in the middle and flock the sides. |

If Oathman makes his battlefield half the size called for by the scenario, problem solved. |
