Wow. So glad you showed these. You should send a link to Black Hussar, as they will be delighted.

Things I like; Your cuirasses are better than mine, they look metallic and the yellow lace edging is so finely rendered. The metal work on the crossbelts looks brilliant with that really delicate outline. Your flag is the right size, is that from BH? The shabraque lace is really neat (I mean UK neat, not West Coast USA). I tried four different variants as yellow on white is easily lost. I even tried outlining the yellow and the lace edge (three black lines, a real mess).

I did not know riders could be bought without horses. I sat several on Front Rank steeds for variety. The chap drawing or sheathing his sword is very unusual and I love one of him in the ranks, but agree too many looks repetitive. Have you noticed his wrist is rotated the wrong way around?

Cannot wait to see the G du Corps. With them you have to do the cipher mind you, as now on dark blue. You only need 4 per figure (saddlecloth and pistol holster), ie 48 FARs. Dead simple. Basically an inverted V, with a curly line across the top, exactly the same half way down and one short line where that crosses the right of the inverted V, down and out to the right (the tail of the R). Only 48……that way lies madness.

Love these. So glad you did show them.

Oh, plus the crown of course. 48 of them.

You are right, there should be straps on the portmanteaux, but I did not trust myself to paint them, with no moulding to help me. Simple foil strips would have done, but after 48 FARs…

Just like this, but I'll bet your lace is neater in the end than mine. I forgot a central vertical line bisecting the inverted V…48 of them.

GduCorps rode black horses BTW

I think some respondents on your linked site made the same mistake that I did, assuming you would do Garde du Corps next. Merely because they had the best uniform of the era (OK, maybe those Gendarmes d'Elite too) and because they charged with them at Borodino. The Lieb Cuirassiers (to mix my languages)….did they ever do anything notable? Rarely seen in model form.

The Chevauxlegers from BH look great and can be very colourful. Even that regt with the lance, the Green faced chaps, Prinz somebody or other. Don't forget the hussars. I think you will be busy for some months.

You know you want to do G du Corps

Markconz10 Apr 2019 5:34 p.m. PST

Thanks all! Front Rank horses for variety not a bad idea Liam. Didn't notice the wrist thing, but then I often tend to find it confusing where the glove ends/sword guard starts!

Also very pretty GDuCorp Liam (though is that a blue splodge or camera flare on the left mane?), and yes it was the Lieb I was planning on rather than GDC, but maybe everyone's right and I need the former too! Lieb Cuirassiers were in action at Leipzig, as were the Zastrow, was reading about it last night. You're probably right about the FAR on the GDC blue! Still looks like a nightmare though!

Prinz Clemens Uhlans, yes didn't exist for long but very tempting! Have the von Polenz Chev almost ready to post.

Also flag is just a printout from warflag :)

von Winterfeldt11 Apr 2019 5:54 a.m. PST

do you mean Lieb/love or Leib/body cuirassiers? ;-)).

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP11 Apr 2019 8:01 a.m. PST

Glad to say we both got that wrong! Ich Lieb mein Saxon Garde du Corps but nicht der Leib Kuirassiers. (You may have noticed my German is almost non existent.) Indeed, until today, I always thought Leib was "Life" as in Life Guard, not body guard. It is body. von W is right, but he does have an advantage in the language. (Thanks, certainly raised a laugh but also taught me something)

That printout flag is just perfect. GMB work is beautiful and I know the argument in favour of too big, but basically…………… too big.

You have another Saxon unit done? Light blue facings (yes, I did have to look it up), should look great with the red coat. Trumpeter esp in reversed colours.

PS my secret? Not dentistry actually (that pays far better). No, a lifetime in ENT and esp ear surgery, working with a microscope. Things in the ear are pretty small and rather delicate, so good prep for a Saxon monogram. Still amazed by your double lace on the shabraque though.

Widowson11 Apr 2019 11:04 a.m. PST

Deadhead, your brushwork on those shabraques is just INSANE.

Markconz11 Apr 2019 1:45 p.m. PST

Aha ja ich lieb mein Leib und Zastrow!

ENT surgery, that makes sense! Indeed amazing work on shabraques! :)
