Latest addition to the elephant parade. Seleucid armored elephants in 20mm from Newline Designs. Antiochus III at the battle of Magnesia deployed his elephants between sections of deep phalanxes. This would have been an intimidating sight but the Roman army was at its sharpest after years of fighting in the Hannibalic war. The elephants at Magnesia caused great disruption to Antiochus' pikemen. These themes will hopefully be explored during the Lost Battles refight, one day!

Nicely done they look splendid. Not to many battles in the Hellenistic era where elephants seem to have been the wonder weapon everyone hoped for Ipsus, the Elephant victory and Bagradas River come to mind.

Thanks! Yes seem more of a miss than a hit. The Romans left their african elephants out of Magnesia. Although the well drilled Romans delt with them well there was still a fear as they demanded on Seleucid kings that they disband their elephant troops.

Very nice. Are these metal and resin or just metal? (The mould lines on the howdahs look like a resin casting.)

How do they compare, scale wise, with Zvezda?

ToneTW14 Apr 2019 2:22 p.m. PST

Hi, yes all metal… and they are quite a bit smaller than Zvezda ones at a guess based on what I've read on Plastic Soldier Review. I have the Hat Indian elephants and they are a bit bigger than the Newline ones.
