Lancashire Games is having a sale on and I was wondering if their SYW figures match well with other brands like Blue moon and Eureka. They are a large 15mm I believe and their Army Packs are 15% off. Good way to get into SYW. Are they considered "good" quality miniatures? Sale ends on Sunday I believe. Thanks |

I have a few Lancashire games cavalry. The horses are OK alongside the Eureka horses, but the actual riders are a bit squat, look as if they are sitting too low in the saddle, so alongside Eureka cavalry, they don't look great. To be honest, the Eureka cavalry are in a class of their own and I have struggled to find any other ranges to match, but now they cover the major SYW nations, I shall stick with Eureka cavalry. I have some SyW LG Saxon infantry. They're a little shorter than the Eureka infzntry figures, closer yo the Essex infantry of my SYW French army, but not so much difference that it would bother me to have them in a separate unit on the same table (but then I have Minifigs, Tabletop Games, Lancashire Games, Battle Honours, Old Glory and AB in my French Napoleonic army!) I think the Lancashire Games ranges are very variable in quality and size, so you really need to get some samples to compare with your existing ranges. |

Lancashire sit towards the middling end of the quality scale. |

It's always worth getting a few samples first with Lancashire games. Some of their sculpts are very elegant and well look good but some, particularly the newest ones suffer from being far too squat and lack human proportions which is a shame as they are great to deal with and nice and cheap. |

Lancashire Games makes some very good figures. For the figures I have from the 15mm SYW range, the infantry are excellent. Perhaps a we bit smaller than Old Glory, Blue Moon, or Eureka but no noticeable difference from the table. Clean sculpting and easy to paint. The infantry in their 15mm 19th Century Europe Wars range are brilliant. The figures are generally free from flash and a good value. For cavalry, I stick with Eureka since they are BIG and BEAUTIFUL. No one else's cavalry match up to Eureka in size. A sample of a battalion of Russian SYW infantry (mounted officer is Eureka): Front:

I tend to get Lancashire infantry for the 7YW and get Essex/Old Glory cavalry and artillery.(15mm) Lancashire cavalry are on scrawny mounts, and some are just awful representations of horses (IMHO). I use the best for Russian and Reichsarmee cavalry, who had poor mounts, and they work fine for that.
The Lancashire cavalry are on the left, Essex Cavalry on the right. |

Lancashire games SYW are decent figures- not perhaps the greatest but good workmanlike ones that mix in well enough with most ranges. some of their figures are quite exquisite- see the British generals pack, French line infantry command or the Frederick the great pack for examples. They can't be beaten for value. |
