…Episode IX Retconning The Last Jedi.

"How do we put this delicately? Some of the decisions Rian Johnson made in Star Wars: The Last Jedi…rubbed people the wrong way. The handling of Luke Skywalker, Rey's lineage, the fate of Snoke, all of these things instantly became lightning rods of debate and continue to be just that. Some fans even hope the sequel changes those things. And if they do, Johnson is OK with it.

While speaking to Johnson at CinemaCon 2019, MTV asked the writer and director of The Last Jedi if he'd be bothered if Star Wars: Episode IX co-writer and director J.J. Abrams retconned the revelation that Rey's parents were no one. Johnson immediately shook his head and replied, "Like I said, man, I want to let go of all my expectations. I want to sit back. I want to be entertained. I want to be surprised. I want to be thrilled. I want him to do stuff I wasn't expecting him to do and just go along for the ride."…."

What's done can always be undone. That's the beauty of storytelling. Rey's parents' lineage can easily be explained away as simply Kylo Ren saying they're nobodies just to hurt her feelings. He's either lying to her or don't even know who they are.

Reading between the lines, he's saying "Hey, I've made my money off it, they can do whatever they like…"

In my opinion, making Rey a nobody makes her even more interesting. I've always disliked the notion of "pure blood" in fantasy. It's … undemocratic. (Small "d")
It separates the heroic Class from the Muggles. Rey is a Muggle!

I loved that Luke, like the protagonist in Marty Robbins' "El Paso" was "shocked by the foul evil thing I had done", and retired to the badlands. It's an honest look at doing bad things for a "good" reason. And it backfired, probably completing the turning of Kylo.
From a purely mythological reason, both twists were perfect!

In other words, I found the whole movie a vast improvement, in other words putting grownups in charge.
We can't have that, can we? Gotta sell toys!

weaponising hyperspace cant be err be unweaponised. 2 out of 3 of this trilogy have been missed opportunities to blow us all away. Will the third be better?

I wholeheartedly agree. TLJ isn't as bad as some people made it out to be, and I think posterity in the end will judge it more fairly than the fanboys, many of whom were prejudiced against it based on some perceived SJW conspiracy.

Horsehockey.

Believe it or not, fans can just hate a movie without being backwards bumpkins who don't understand or agree with self declared superior minds.

It used to be you put out a product where you tried to make fans happy, and if you wanted to grow your audience, you did just that while reaching out to new audiences. The goal was to grow, not divide. Not now. If you want to put out a movie these days, you flip the fans off before it even comes out and then dare them not to come, and if they do reject your movie, then blame them for being backwards losers who just don't get it rather than accepting that you missed the mark. That's a hell of a marketing method.

You liked it. Great. You have that right. I hated it and not because of your paranoid premise. I have that right.

I've written exactly why I hated it here before in great detail- none of those reasons had to do with SJW conspiracies.

Everybody gets to make up their own mind. That's how life works. If you love diversity, you should respect that.

@ TGerritsen – Who made you jump in front of his bullet? he said "many" not "all" and certainly not you specifically…

Rebel deck officer to tauntaun-riding Han Solo leaving Echo Base to search for Luke in TESB:
"Your tauntaun will freeze before you reach the first marker!"

And the same scene, had it been in the sequel trilogy today (with female deck officer):
"You can't go out there, Captain Solo, because (a) you haven't yet completed a risk assessment, and (b) I am going to have to arrest you for planning an act of animal cruelty."

Episode 8 was an absolute dumpster fire. Not sure they could do any worse.
