What I have read suggests this was a particularly nasty conflict. Border wars tend to be, bit like Missouri/Kansas in ACW or the "Troubles" between Eire and the occupied Six Counties more recently.


In the end it was not worth the life of one grenadier, to quote Bomber Harris. Not well documented though…hardly surprising

John H Gill's "With Eagles to Glory" does have some interesting passages about the conflict and difficulties faced by Napoleon's armies and allies to secure some control. The reverses are quite fascinating – some where the fear was greater than the reality faced.
