I have a GW Foam piece that came with Static Grass glued on. No idea what they used to glue it. Any idea on a solvent that is mild enough to NOT dissolve foam?

Try soaking a small area with regular alcohol, wait a minute and then scrape it off with something with an edge but not a blade (plastic scrapper). It should come right off if the grass was applied with a white glue, if this works rough places should de-grass with a scrubbing/tooth brush.

The next step up is IPA (isopropyl alcohol)or rubbing alcohol as it is often called. Look for the 91% or the 99% sold in the pharmacy section.

I do not know this terrain you are looking at, but I suspect it is polyurethane foam, not polystyrene form.

It would be yellow-tan-brown, if so, it is very solvent tolerant. methylenechloride has been used to remove it from tools and such once it has cured.

The Terrain Tutor burnt the grass off similar terrain items with a cigarette lighter. I think the grass just melts and then he re-grassed over the treated area.

Try soaking it for 24 hours in water and then brushing with a tooth brush. If it doesn't work let it dry thoroughly before trying other methods.

(And try a patch test on the underside of the piece before using chemicals on the top).

I have found it is easier to paint the static grass with a watered down dark brown color. Once dry you can paint and dry brush the static grass for a new effect, and add additional and/or new materials for a much better effect. I have done this with some NOCH castles I purchased which were much the same way.
