Probably over $200 USD so far for a 28mm Russian Civil War armies---just started buying and painting. I'm kind of like Hans Solo---Never tell me the cost of my armies. |

Difficult to say since it has been bought in bits and pieces either from E-bay or second hand at conventions. 28mm (some 25mm) NKE, spent about £40.00 GBP so far, £35.00 GBP shortly, and at least £100.00 GBP to go ….. |

My most recent army is still under construction. Probably close to $400 USD so far in figures, maybe another $200 USD to $300 USD in terrain so far. A chunk of it will go to painters, which will run $400 USD to $500. USD |

I spent about $225 USD on a 4 point painted Jomsviking Saga warband. |

DBA – maybe $30. USD BBDBA – $60 USD? Nice thing about DBA is the small number of figures needed for an army. Also helps to pick up miniatures on the second hand market or by waiting for sales… |
TMPWargamerabbit | 04 Apr 2019 12:59 p.m. PST |
Only one army? Cost unknown as the miniatures been in the unpainted storage department for years. Just painting my way though the backlog pile in recent years. |

+1 Dagwood. My last new army was 15mm Dark Age vikings and Saxons. Maybe $500 USD in lead, $2,000 USD to have it all painted, maybe more. |

Gangsters. One box of figures. A few Matchbox Models of Yesteryear. Less than $100. USD Buildings were already built for other games. |

Just started a Saga Dark Ages Scottish army, which I think will cost about $135 USD – $140. USD I do some sort of cost estimate before starting. Like the government, for whom I used to work, I usually have a cost overrun, as I find more things I need to add. Costs are limited to figures, and do not include paint (used on all sorts of different figures), supporting books, or shield decals. Grelber |

£300.00 GBP for a large (very large) 54mm Napoleonics collection which I am rebasing. There are, shall we say, interesting figures as liberal use has been made of repainting 1805-1809 autrians as other nations…. Mike |

My most recent completed(?) army was US$200.00. A plastic Medieval army 76 figures I bought already painted and 18 knights I painted myself , 2 of which I've already lost :-(. |

From memory about £2.00 GBP. I recently found my old Airfix 8th army & Afrika Korps figures I had as a child. Once painted and based, we've been playing a lot of Bolt Action with them. |

Looking at my Old Glory orders, I have spent over $1,800 USD on Blue Moon 18mm ACW, which includes US and CS. I have spent several hundred more each with Scale Creep and Viking Forge. Tom |

I've been building out my 25mm-28mm armies using 1/72 plastic sets: Dwarves, Goblins, and Orcs. Each set runs around $19 USD delivered, containing 35-48 figures each. Paint is cheap (craft paints, around $1.50 USD per bottle, around 5-6 colors used). My Goblin hoard was recently upgraded with Giant Bat Cavalry, at $8 USD/Schleich Bat, so that ran the tally up quite a bit as I gave them around 10 Bats! For my 200-figures strong Goblin Army, I am probably at $175 USD, which includes infantry, Warg Riders, and Bat Cavalry. That averages to around $0.88 USD/figure (rider/mount counted as one figure, for cavalry types). Did the same for recent Lizardmen Army, kitting them out with Schleich Lizard toys, to create Giant Lizard Cavalry: cut the Caesar Lizardmen figures off their bases, same as the Goblins, and glue them to the Lizards. Far fewer figures than the Goblins, but sooo much fun! The 1/72 plastic figures for the Goblins and Dwarves, are much closer in size, to what Gygax specified in the 1977 AD&D Monster Manual, compared to a 25mm Human. The Orcs and the Lizardmen are a little small, but not enough to bother me. The prices make it worthwhile -- I can build larger armies, for the same, or less, cash! Cheers! |

Can't count that high. Seriously probably several hundred maybe a grand. All SYW, Austrians, Prussians, French, and Allies about 20-25 battalions each, plus 5-6 regiments cavalry each, not counting light infantry and cavalry and miscellaneous artillery, baggage, ammo wagons, command stands etc. This is ONE period army. I have built several, 8 or 10. |
khanscom | 05 Apr 2019 5:52 p.m. PST |
The most recent army (6mm South American liberation wars)is in progress, but I can't even hazard a guess at the cost. The figures were acquired so long ago that I probably bartered for them with glass beads and cowrie shells ;-) . |
