In our second play test of Undeadwood, Matt's 6-figure troupe of vampires, zombies and undead gunmen storm the Chez Amis, Deadwood's finest cathouse, while two of the girls greet them from the balcony. Guess they still think they are potential customers.
Inside they attack Joannie Stubbs, the madame, in the kitchen, as well as Pinky, the soiled dove entertaining a customer in the parlor.
All three end up getting bit by either a zombie or a vampire. The john is transformed into a Bone Golem (Matt a rolled a "special" for undead transformation), while Pinky becomes a deadly Hanging Judge (Matt's really rolling a lot of specials today) …
… while Joannie becomes a lovely lady vampire
John, who's running Bullock's faction, surrounds the house, trying to stay back far enough in case Matt draws first next turn (we're using Fistful of Dollars Reloaded, a a simple card-based system). Unfortunately Matt does draw first and unfortunately John did get too close as the Bone Golem (yeah, it's a "click" mini; so sue me) rushes out of the building to attack Sheriff Bullock.
This could be bad news for John as Bullock is his best character. The Bone Golem wins the melee, barely, but only manages to pin Bullock, knocking him down. On his turn, Bullock opts to shoot prone, blowing the Bone Golem to Kingdom Come. His pal, Sol Starr, fares less well, and is gunned by an undead gunman. Starr's girlfriend, Trixie the Whore (her words, not mine) runs into the Harp Saloon to try and recruit some help.Over on the left, the Bible Thumper, one of the town's four "blessed" figures, watches impassively.
Meanwhile, back in the cathouse, zombies race upstairs (4 beds, no waiting) to attack the two girls on the balcony.
One girl is quickly taken down and becomes a zombie. The other fights off her attacker and then opts to leap off the balcony to escape, sustaining a wound in the process. She'll manage to fight off two more attacks while prone (probably used to that) before finally succumbing to a zombie bite.
Over in the Harp Saloon, Trixie (in blue dress) is able to convince (she's good at that) the bartender to come out help fight the Undead. The rest of the Harp clientele continue on with their drinking and fighting as if nothing's wrong.
To make a long story short, despite losing Calamity Jane, Bullock's team rallies and manages to gun down all the remaining zombies (they only get one wound) as they attempt to swarm them.
The lesson here: never send a zombie to do an Undead gunmen's job. They are here to spread the infection, not fight the armed Living.
Shameless self-promotion again follows: We'll be running Undeadwood Thursday night and Friday morning at Little Wars.
link There are still a few spots left. The town also will be used Friday night and Saturday for some other games, Deadwood Apocalypse and The Way The West Was Run. No zombies in those two, but a helluva lot of flying lead. Here's a view of the lovely squalor of Chinatown. The guy shoveling manure is the town mayor, by the way.
