You were asked – TMP link Which military academy is the best? 28% said "West Point" 20% said "US Naval Academy" 14% said "Sandhurst" |

This is as much as to say "The majority of TMP readers are in the US." |

Which members have done the full course at all 3? Better to ask "do you think your views on politics are correct?" That would give a more balanced result I think. I would opine that the Sandhurst course on naval gunnery is rubbish. West point does not even offer a module on working wit the ghurkas. What a very silly poll. |

What the heck is The Austrailian Defense Forces Academy? Do you mean The Australian Defence Force Academy? |

What the heck is The Austrailian Defense Forces Academy? Do you mean The Australian Defence Force Academy? That's how it was nominated, and no one caught the error! |

A silly poll. As Martin states without familiarity with the institutions how can one weigh in as to which is best? And more importantly how is the term "best" being defined? Cost, ease of entry, recognition of status, real knowledge, general or specific and the list could go on. Reminds of a current commercial where someone is extolling the virtue of a communication industry and his friend wonders how many food items the spokesperson can fit in his mouth. |

I think it depends a bit on what the basis of the rating is – for example, if you rated them as universities Sandhurst doesn't make the list because it isn't one Given its history and heritage I voted Sandhurst but would agree with West Point |

A lot is based on your goals. Not having been in the Air Force but in the Army, I wonder what the Air Force Academy is like. While at Fort Knox for Armor OBC, my room mate was a Marine who went to the naval Academy. While on special assignment for four months my room mate was a ring knocker from the Point. I worked with a lot of ring knockers with the Marine being the most squared away. |

I think each experience is unique depending on many factors. My father graduated from West Point in 1959. It was a time (pre-Vietnam), when people believed their government and looked up to their leaders. I have tremendous respect for my father for his integrity and sense of duty. A few decades later I attended the Air Force Academy, and quite frankly I was disappointed. Maybe it was different earlier and maybe it has changed again and is a better place than I remember. When I was there, it seemed a deep sense of cynicism pervaded everything. I knew what to expect, but did not thrive in that environment of constant yelling and screaming during the freshman year. It seemed a culture of hazing just to be mean and cruel with no real learning behind it. Later, as a sophomore I did enjoy some of the summer programs such as parachuting, flying gliders, and survival training. I went through a lot of crap to become a pilot. I don't think I would do it all over again. I sometimes think I should have gone to a small college and studied military history and been a college professor. |

I think a truer poll would be, which academy produces the best officers! |
