"The scope of Vietnam War movies varies from some that are quite lame to the epic ones. Hamburger Hill definitely belongs in the latter category, being one of the most realistic movies about the Vietnam conflict. Despite the opinion that it is among the goriest and most brutal war movies, it is actually very accurate about the events it portrays.

The movie follows the 14-man platoon of B Company, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division in its fight for Hill 937 in the A Shau Valley. A ten-day battle that lasted from May 11-20, 1969, it was one of the most horrifying in the entire Vietnam War…."

I was the PL of B-3/187 years later '80-'82 with 101. Thought the movie was fairly accurate but of course I was still in high school, in '69. So … I was not there. However, much of the GI equipment, weapons, etc., we were still using in the early '80s.

But Hamburger Hill clearly demonstrated that assaulting a fortified hill in the jungle was no easy task. Especially in a war of attrition, in the enemies' backyard. Lessons were learned … again … but too late for many in the 187, etc.

RIP Brothers … RIP …

What an interesting posting Tango.

I thought this film was grossly underrated but was very impressed by the attention to detail of the reviewer. It is admitted that any errors are minor and do not detract from the content, but this chap knows his (presume male) stuff!
