I have a Blue Moon Wild West stagecoach that I would like to include in my ACW towns, etc.,but I don't know if stagecoach service was in use through the areas touched by the war, such as Virginia, Maryland, Tennessee, Georgia etc. If anyone can supply information or point me in the right direction It would be appreciated.

If you want to put a stagecoach on the table, go ahead. Nashville was a major stagecoach hub prior to the start of the ACW. Railroads superseded stagecoaches during this time period, but stagecoaches did not vanish overnight.

Use it, they used the same style of coach through out the country, not just the "Wild West".

You will probably be the only one on your block to think of it! Go for it!

"Stagecoach" service began in the 1780s, IIRC. The period of the Old West lasted into the early 1900s. Obviously, stages ran during the ACW period. In terms of where, exactly, would require a lot more research, but sure, why not?

There was a long period of overlap. My grandmother traveled by stagecoach in the American Middle West, a bit after 1900. And there were still coaching stations around London about that time.

Remember the flexibility. A rail line needs steady traffic and volume, and each route has sunk costs in right of ways and track. Notice how often Sherlock Holmes catches a train out of London and then has to find horse-drawn transport for the last five or ten miles.

If anyone complains, give them the lash.

Thank you everyone. It will take its rightful place on Main Street.

When I was doing daily postings about life in the ACW
era, I found 3 or 4 stories about stagecoach travel
in Virginia, so go right ahead and use it !

It was either that or ride a horse in most places.
