All – Thinking of buying a 3D printer for fun/hobby. I'd like to print 15mm – 28mm figures and vehicles as well as terrain. I'm considering the UP! Plus 2, FlashForge 3D Printer Creator and the Ender 3D Pro. Any input from those who have taken the plunge on pros and cons is welcome. Thanks in advance! |

I've seen people getting great results with the Anycubic Photon DLP printer. I have an entry-level Monoprice Mini Delta FDM machine, and it's not really usable for minis. The Photon is less than $500 USD now, so I'll probably be getting one in the near future. |

Haven't printed minis on my Creality Ender 3 Pro, but have printed lots of tanks and castle bits. Price is good and with the right settings, you can get good quality. Do a search for Fat Dragon Games (I think that's the name) on YouTube -- the guy has the same printer I do and has suggestions for settings for 28mm minis and you can see what quality he gets. |

If you want to print 15mm figures I would opt for the photon. I have been trying to print 15mm minis for about 6 months with an FDM. The thin parts (ankles, weapons, etc) are hard to do. 15 terrain works great though. |

I have an fdm printer (Replicator 2). We found that untill we got Simplify 3D slicer we were not really able to do figures. Like Oldguy said small parts can be a problem when the supports are nearly as stong or stonger than the part they are supporting. Simplify generates easy removeable supports, I have printed down to 0.7mm dia gun barrels and still got the supports off. You need to consider where you are going to print. FDM printers need a temperature stable environment in my experience, so mine lives in the house. I would not want a resin printer in the house. The risk of a resin spill is proabvly small but the cost would be very high. |

If you want to build your printer, the Ender3 is a fine choice. It has several prefab parts. I have the Ender 3X which does a fabulous job with miniatures. I have been printing some Fat Dragon miniatures and scale them to 1/72 scale. The flashforge 3d is a good choice because it is an out of the box printer. |
