In between getting ahold of some Pulp looking stuff, and having bought some Darkest Africa and Interwar/Early War Chinese, I was wondering what a good set of rules would be, for a Pulp type setting? I am interested in hearing about them all, but flexibility in setting up the scenarios (not necessarily having set factions) is a plus. |

We have used the Contemptible Little Armies rules for Mexican Revolution and Interwar Chinese – worked well for us and a lot of fun link |

When you say Pulp what do you mean? A semi rpg where it's the players against the gamesmaster? Then I think GASLIGHT …to be continued, Rebelminis Larger Than Life, Savage Worlds Flash Gordon. Rat Trap Productions .45 Adventure: Thrilling Action in the Pulp Era, Astounding tales 2nd Ed. Go to Wargames Vault and read the descriptors on these games Pulp Alley is popular one and takes a different prospective if I understand it correctly. Objectives are scattered about the table and each player attempts to capture the most/best while preventing the other players from doing so. There quite a few game plays here on TMP |

Pulp Alley is good. 7TV is another set of rules you may want to look at. They are soon to release a Pulp set of rules, but the basic 2nd Ed is easy to use for Pulp games. |

I'd suggest Mad Dogs with Guns (hardcopy from Osprey, PDF from WargamesVault). |

Pulp Alley is the popular choice. Although I've had some success lately using Galactic Heroes for Pulp. Check out link & link |

Pulp Alley works best with 2-4 players. Any more and it slows down. That has been my experience. |

Lots to consider. Thanks to everyone. Pulp Alley does have a KS ending Sunday for the second edition. Maybe I'll get in on it. |

GASLIGHT has already been mentioned, but let me add, that GASLIGHT includes the original skirmish game (in which each player as a small number of 10-man units and/or two or three Victorian vehicles), Battles by GASLIGHT for larger skirmishers, To Be Continued… by GASLIGHT for Pulp skirmishes (in which each player might control as few as 4 figures, and even a role playing game. All of these sets of rules are compatible so that you can seamlessly use aspects of one set of rules with the others. In fact, the GASLIGHT Compendium was written in a Chinese menu manner so that you can pick the activation mechanism from one, the shooting from another, etc. The Compendium was really written for folks who were already familiar with the rules, and combined all the little books into a single volume. The Compendium has been criticized for being difficult for folks to to the rules, so there is a quick-start guide on Wargames Vault (for free) that lets you get started. It includes rules to create new creatures, weapons, and vehicles. We have used GASLIGHT for games from fantasy and ancient warfare to science fiction, and everything in between. In many ways, GASLIGHT is a one-stop shop for rules. Buck Surdu Biased co-author of GASLIGHT |

Mr Robertson I canna find Mad Dogs with Guns at either Wargamevault nor drivethruRPG Hmm, looks like we turned off the PDF when the Osprey version came out.
Make that: "Osprey carries it, and it's prettier than the first edition". |

Since I started playing Pulp Alley a little over 4 years ago, I have come to use it for every genre and setting I want to play in. The rules are so flexible, player-friendly, and fun to use, and the plot point objective system so adaptable, that it is now my basic toolbox for tabletop miniature gaming. I can run my old Necromunda gangs in it, and I use it for high fantasy as well. And, it keeps expanding its range with each supplement. It really works for me, is about all I can add. :-) |

Pulp Alley is great. Dave and company have done a great job producing videos on YouTube to help you learn the various elements and nuances of the game. It really works with almost any type of setting. I have done pulp games and "historical" war games using the same set of rules. |
