Anyone make more sense of DLR closures on April 6th than I can?

It appears to be running to Custom House but there are problems en route somewhere I'm not sure of. Only use these strange rail based modes of transportation once a year so I'm easily confused! 😯

Andoreth22 Mar 2019 4:45 a.m. PST

The bit of the DLR which is closed on the 6th is from Bank to Shadwell, at the start of the route. You should be able to go via Tower Gateway instead.

for those coming from Essex or East London it is worth noting that the Central Line is also closed that day from Bethnal Green going east had anyone been planning to go via Stratford.

It seems like almost every year there are problems. I hate it being at Excel

That's the thing with the Tube and DLR network being so huge. There is always bits of it closed for maintenance. Although they do try to only close stuff at the weekend!

It's like London as a whole really. It sometimes seems like one big building site. Still, it'll be nice when it's finished…maybe in another two thousand years?

many main roads also likely to be blocked especially on the Friday night .

"Still, it'll be nice when it's finished…maybe in another two thousand years?"

Funnily enough that's what the Romans said!

Thanks Andoreth, that makes sense. Coming from the west I might stay on the Jubilee Line to Canning Town to miss any increased foot fall at Tower Gateway.

That said, Millwall are at home, so Canada Water might be worth avoiding.

Guthroth24 Mar 2019 4:39 a.m. PST

I also come from the West side and use the Jubilee

On the warlord's website it says that the line is closed and has a rail replacement bus service while the DLR says trains are running but will not stop at Custom House?

Trajanus24 Mar 2019 10:22 a.m. PST

Oh Gawd!

Can confirm the DLR notice that no trains stopping at Custom House next Saturday.

TfL Journey Planner now giving complicated advice about a local bus service to Custom House Station which doesn't appear necessary.

Just looked on Google Maps and it seems an easy walk from Royal Victoria to Excel main entrance so would suggest this works in either direction of travel.

Platform space might be a bit more restricted, so take care!

Transport for London website says no trains will stop at Custom House on the 6th, this happened a couple of years ago on Salute day, the simple solution is to get off at Prince Regent which is the stop at the other end of the Excel building.

Cornelius24 Mar 2019 2:13 p.m. PST

Last few years i have walked from/to Canning Town – it's not that far at all.

Cerdic24 Mar 2019 3:13 p.m. PST

Or, if you want to be a bit radical, go to the O2 and take the cable car across the river. You get off a short walk from Excel…

Guthroth26 Mar 2019 12:06 a.m. PST

Or, you could just use the TFL website for the quickest way to get there from anywhere in London tfl.gov.uk

Trajanus26 Mar 2019 7:01 a.m. PST

Yeah you could and then you would end up taking a pointless bus ride.

Particularly if you don't know London and look at the official Salute Website which still says:

"The fastest way to get to ExCeL from central London is to travel on the Jubilee Line Tube to CANNING TOWN station and then to join the Docklands Light Railway to ExCeL."

Proper destination for Excel by public transport is Custom House DLR station, so if you fill that in the route presented to you will still be programmed to take you exactly there.

Even though you can't get off the train on 6th April, assuming you are not on a bus in the first place that is. :o)

Kind of what this whole thread as been about!

EricThe Shed28 Mar 2019 11:42 a.m. PST

or you can get off at Prince Regent which is quieter than Custom House and for the last three years been the closest of the two stations to the hall where the show is held…

however not knowing which hall this years show is in I might be wrong

EricThe Shed28 Mar 2019 11:43 a.m. PST

I was a excel today and can testify it is much quiet plus you have a better chance of getting on the train when you leave (assuming you are going back into central london)

Trajanus29 Mar 2019 1:40 p.m. PST

Yeah that would work. Its just a toss up where Salute is in terms of distance from either the West or East entrance.

It was certainly a fair step from the West entrance last year, even though its the closest to Custom House and of course there's no Custom House option this year anyway!

Guthroth31 Mar 2019 2:58 a.m. PST

Simple solution. Get off the DLR at Canning Town and get a 241 bus. Not really rocket science is it ?

arthur181531 Mar 2019 6:07 a.m. PST

Just one more reason why I won't be going!
