Here, then, are the Brigade Games Miniatures British Dragoons, finished as King's Dragoon Guards.

Minor differences. The figures come with beautifully cast pointed cuffs, but I had to convert them to "gauntlet" cuffs for this unit. Where that simply did not work I gave them white gauntlet gloves to cover my mistakes, but these were really meant for full dress at home. Only other change was an "upgrade" for the two officers' swords. The red collar patches? Well I like them and cannot find out when they were dropped, but I do hope not before Waterloo. The old story of KDG confused with Royals during the rally after the charge…largely identical outfits, however.

Useful references proved to be that daftly titled "The Cavalry That Broke etc", Osprey's "Wellington's Heavy Cavalry" and a 1988 article torn from "Military Hobbies" by one Adrian Schmit, in my scrap box (he said the red patch was only abolished after Waterloo, nice man!)

Real credit to the sculptor, Paul Hicks, who also "does" for Murawski…..

Magnificent, really great looking unit.
I would have put the trumpeter on a grey, I know it wasn't regulations but I suspect they did anyway…we'll never know.

It certainly looks better and, despite the definite instructions to the contrary, there is equally much suggestion that the practice continued. Certainly there was logic to making the trumpeter easily recognised by his commander in a melee.

Excellent work! I particularly like your ground view photos, which are most realistic.

Thanks for that. My Camera is now about 15 years old but cost about £800.00 GBP back then (about £200.00 GBP now I suspect for the same spec).

Massive tripod. Four spotlights. Delay on exposure. f20-30 if I can override the camera. Aperture priority. The result is depth of focus.

The challenge is the colours. Always a green cast, whatever I do. The lighting is so intense that the mattest finish has a sheen. The background photos tend to reflect the lighting.

It ain't easy babe…..

Remember you see the pics that worked. The Life Guards I did over and over and then gave up. The top one on this site is my best, even then the background could have been dropped one-two centimetres for best perspective.

Very nice stuff, Deadhead – amazing pics as always!

Thanks. If only I had Photoshop. I only did KDG on one waterbottle, but could now put it on all. Much doubt about lettering anyway, I try to convince myself.

I thought the officer in the bicorne was a great idea of the makers. The helmeted officer was meant to be carrying the pennant, but I had one for the Life Guards and none for KDG…so, amputation and transplant
