There's a line of Perry figures for a what-if scenerio depicting a clash between Anglo-Canadians and Union soldiers. Britian and the Union did indeed nearly go to war but what of France? France was supportive of British policy and there was a diplomatic effort by the Confederates to drag either Britian and France (or both) into the ACW. Does anyone make period French for a what-if game? I assume that Franco-Prussian war figures would be too late because of the adoption of the Chasspote after the ACW?

I would think Maximillian Adventure figures would be perfect for this.

Agreed – notably as during the ACW the French had forces in Mexico supporting Maximillian

My next queestion is who makes figures for the Maximillian Adventure?

TVAG makes them, but they are very old school in appearance.

Seems like French figures for The Second Italian War of Independence (Franco-Austrian War) might work.

Scott is correct, the 1859 War in Italy would work perfectly. There are numerous figures available in 15mm and 25/28mm.

Weren't the French busy enough in Mexico, without sending troops to help the CSA? Ships, maybe.

i think one of the goals of the 1864 Red River Campaign was to send a message to the French in Mexico that the US was unhappy they were there. Wouldn't be that big of a stretch to have a brigade of French invade US-occupied New Orleans, I'd think.

The British tried it in 1815.

The French were indeed using the Chassepot by 1870, but their uniforms were largely the same, so to wargame the US intervention of the French Intervention in Mexico I just bought 1870 French in 15mm and pitched them straight at my Union troops. None of my friends are young enough to notice that the breech bolt is sticking out. :-)

QRF has a whole range of Maximilian era figures (and buildings) in 15mm, but the French are just FPW figures. I guess they don't think anyone will notice the difference either.

In even smaller scales (10mm and 6mm) it's probably fair to say nobody could even sculpt the difference properly.
