I'm sure anyone over 40 has considered this at one time or another: What do you intend to do with your Fantasy armies when you are no longer with us?

I own about 20 armies (several themed & unofficial) and had no problem willing them to some of the other gamers in my circle a decade ago. But now that GW no longer supports Warhammer and it has consequently dried up around me, what to do with this beautiful armies? (And yes, I intend for them all to be painted when that day comes- but that's for another thread).

Any good ideas out there regarding your own collection?

With me, in my coffin. My rare books, on the other hand, I hope to have one of my sons keep for his children.

Melted down to make bullets for the revolution?
Donated to a local library, gaming club or museum?
Sold off on ebay to pay for the solid gold casket?

Start a spreadsheet now.

This weekend, I will be selling off someone's collection. It was donated after their death. The family didn't want to have to deal with it, but also they knew if they donated it to the club, the minis would go to good homes.

Identifying the minis and armies has been a challenge and if no one in your family shares your hobby, it will add to their angst.

My son and I have played D&D together over the decades, but he does war game so I doubt he'll want the lead pile aside from a few select pieces. Maybe a grandkid will, but I'll need to make plans.

The 15mm fantasy are on the (theoretical) auction block, to be sold within the next five years. That leaves 100-200 each of 28mm Orcs, Goblins, Amazons, Halflings and Dwarves. I don't expect my son to have any great difficulty finding a buyer or a local hobby shop to donate them to. Some of the historicals may actually be trickier.

Good poll question topic.

When I'm dead, I'm sure I won't care much.

They will carry me to Walhalla!

Dump them

They will probably bury it with me, so I can finish painting their stuff :/

I think anyone who collects things as a hobby needs to have some plan, for passing on his cherished collection. The last thing you want at your wake, is a bunch of nerds sneaking into the games room to put name stickers on stuff they really love :P

But Palewarrior, if no one came to put name stickers on my stuff, I'm pretty sure my son would have to hire mourners to get a decent house. This way, he gets a gratifying turnout for the old man for free, and gets rid of a lot of stuff he doesn't want anyway.

Really, it's the best way for the 28's. I don't know what he can do about the 5mm.

What do you all mean?

If we never paint all our minis, we will never die lol😉

But seriously, it is food for thought though

If I go first its my gaming group's. If our friend whose house is our gaming club passes before the rest of us, we will have to bring all our stuff home. Yikes.

Cataloguing your miniatures and labelling their storage is something to consider.
Unless your relatives are all instantly going to recognise exactly what everything is, you are potentially adding a burden to their distress.

Mithmee20 Mar 2019 6:51 p.m. PST

Well I know what the wife would do with them.

Donate them and make some kids happy.

I suspect mine will either go to Goodwill, or the dumpster. My sons are not into fantasy wargaming. My war gaming friends are all my age. Not sure they would want more than a few select pieces of my collection.

I have actually discussed this with my wife. She assured me our sons would take some of it. To be honest, I hope they take my RPG collection, which is quite extensive.

Truth be told, after I am gone, I won't care one whit! Whatever my sons do not want, will likely go to Goodwill, or the dumpster, as well.

Like I said, I won't care… ;-) Cheers!
