The Norwegian army commander put forwards in a speech today that Norway should create a second brigade.
Right now all Norwegian land forces(except special forces)
Are in Brigade North, what we have of infantry, artillery, armour, engineers, even officers school is in that single brigade of about 4500.

The army chief recomend a second Brigade South. About the same size.

It's a good idea.

Gunfreak,

You sort of have two Brigades now – one a Combat Brigade and the Second Brigade being the Royal Guard battalion plus all the support/training branches (Are you sure your training schools attached to Brigade North?). I would consider keeping all support branches in a separate Support Brigade which leaves the Royal Guard as the basis for your second Combat Brigade.

How to develop and sustain two Combat Brigades when currently you only support one (more or less). Your current Regulars are probably flat out filling your existing structure. You could reduce the existing Combat Brigade to build the Second but that really doesn't solve the problem unless you are prepared to add additional men and kit.

You could build up the Second Combat Brigade from your Home Guard or build new formations (the short term fix is Home Guard until the regulars can be formed and potentially the Home Guard could retain the capability to form an additional Home Guard Combat Brigade). I would argue for the same kit available to Second Combat Brigade as is in the existing Combat Brigade (ie., don't fund the Second Brigade from the First).

Have a great day, FPR

Well, I'd honestly hope the schools are separate from the combat Brigades.

But otherwise, yes, you almost certainly should stand up a second combat brigade, what with Czar Vlad rattling more and more sabers.

Remember over 50% of the troops in brigade North are just there as a rotation during their compulsory service. As of now only a tiny fraction of those eligible for compulsory service are actually called in.
It used to be that if you didn't do it, you had to do civilian service instead.
Now most just aren't called up.

By simply using the manpower available, you'd have no problem filling a second brigade.

Well, if you actually call everyone during their 'compulsory' service, that would work, but the US has found that it takes nearly 2 years to get a new soldier trained up and combat-ready as a unit. ~6-12mos for the soldier and 12-18mos for the unit.
