Did any one create any mods for WRG 1975 version? l found some mainly morale mods by Michael Reese published in the Dragon Magasine , just wondered if any one had updated the Armour v antitank rules. I have the later version of the rules and am tempted to try and interpolate these on the earlier version but feel as though I'm likely to create a Frankenstein's monster.

I am sure that they were many mods along the way, but I never saw any of them. WRG and Tank Charts were the sets I played in the 1980s and 90s prior to leaving the hobby for a long time. I was lucky to trip across a set of the early version of the rules and grabbed them as I am rebuilding a much more modest gaming miniatures collection.

The main thing is to limit the use of smoke.

To speed up infantry combat you may wish to just two groups per section instead of three.

"WWII Armies: Organisation and Equipment" by Ian Shaw, has expanded and modified armour class listings as well as other useful rule suggestions

Yes to limiting the use of smoke.

I play that infantry MGs which hit a target are allowed to have another shot against other targets they can see 25m or less from the first target. This increases the difficulty for a rifle section in simply frontally charging a machinegun.

These rules were used a lot in UK tournaments back in the day and the organizers produced pages of amendments and clarifications which seemed to grow in size. The use of smoke was a problem in these competition games. All guns at a time were allowed to fire it and it always hit the target and the use of the 2" smoke mortars on tanks also added to the problem. They started off with a 500 yds range before it was amended to 100yds

I guess what really needed looking at here was how smoke was used…planned before the battle and perhaps as a tank morale reaction for the use of tank mortars?

Thanks for that everyone especially Vichussar I have an earlier copy of Ian Shaws lists and hadn,t noticed the changes appropriate to 1975 WRG.

Whirlwind mentions one I remember. There is a +1 for first shot at something. We had some qualifiers for that. Like distance from last target.

We also had rules for how far through smoke IR can see.

There is some material on the WRG rules on the IO:group site for BGMR

I relooked at these rules recently and thought about enhancing the rules, but instead went down the path of creating new rules, or looking at rules such as Mein Panzer.
