@ itchysama
Yes looking forward to further updates!
I understand Blucher is the method for fighting the battle to support the campaign's proceeding per a reasonable speed.

Has there been any thoughts of fighting the battle(s) created by this campaign engine with a more tactical play rule set and with either different player ( fog of the war) or mixed up ( as to after the campaign) to see how they would proceed or to have an interesting battle we GM's typically could not have otherwise created as a scenario?

curious…

@ marshalGreg
We haven't thought along those lines. Our main goal was to actually COMPLETE a campaign. I tend to find the more "tactical" the rules set, the longer it takes to actually play.

Also, we are limited by the number of players interested (and with troops) in our local area.

Understand
I was thinking more on the lines as to later, to see if the battle progress closely or very differently than that generated by the Blucher combat.
If you can send me sufficient info, I would be willing to make a go with either Empire, CnGII or ESR.
Mr Torok has by contact info.

Tactical games are a sure killer from completing a campaign and as not to lose the tempo
Will be following closely
Have you figure out how to carry on with casualties

itchysama07 Mar 2019 4:21 a.m. PST

@ David Grech

Casualties are figured out as the following:
Broken conscripts on either side are just gone.
Units with elan of 7 or more cannot be replaced if broken.
Units ending the battle with less than 50% elan lose 1 level:
Overstrength -> Normal -> Understrength -> -1 permanent elan -> destroyed.
Units at 50% or greater elan come back fine.
Units "captured" by post battle results may not be replaced.

We do play through the "post battle" results so we see what, if anything is caught. The French were fortunate in our first tabletop battle, in that they still had some light cav on the board. Our post battle rule is:
Compare every light cav unit vs number of enemy light cav units on the battlefield (not retired/routed) at battle's end. For each light cav unit outnumbering an opponent's cav, roll 1d6. On a 4-6, they capture a fleeing unit (defender's choice).

Hope that helps.

We also get 20 points each a week for recruitment/reinforcements.

Sam was one of the first I remember to have such an elegant post battle pursuit phase. Very simple. Made you not want to waste your light cavalry in high risk charges/combat.

All,
Due to some real life issues some of our gamers are facing, we have decided to cancel our Blucher campaign.

We will use the experience to help us run a smoother one next time (once all the other influences have died down to a dull roar).

Thanks again to everyone who has been following the campaign and all the wonderful notes of support.
