Having been fairly spectacularly defeated first time around, the US have another go at advancing through Arthenay in the next battle in my Too Fat Lardies 29, Let's Go! campaign: link

Good thing the GI's get a do-over to redeem themselves after having their collective rear ends handed to them courtesy of the magically appearing MG42 the last time. |

Thanks both. good thing the GI's get a do-over to redeem themselves after having their collective rear ends handed to them courtesy of the magically appearing MG42 the last time. yes. although at the lowest tactical level, the enemy always appears in the wrong place as if by magic, it seems! more seriously, it is all actually quite tightly calibrated to the rules. The rules I use (WRG 1925-50 Armour & Infantry) have the spotting range of static or concealed infantry as only 50m, hence why quite often the Germans will appear quite close to the US. This works both ways mind, so typically the Germans will open up on US troops between 35-150m away. As the US player, I am praying that they will merely be suppressed rather than eliminated. But once troops have opened fire, they can be detected from a much greater distance, so if I have sited my supporting troops correctly (i.e. also in cover, and thus invisible to the Germans), their fire will then neutralize the Germans. Once the leading troops become unsuppressed, they will then typically carry out a close-range assault and hopefully eliminate the Germans. This is the basic 'tactical grammar' of the game. |
