Don't normally post here, but found this WWII film about North Sea MTB ops while looking for something else, so thought it might be of interest to naval types on TMP. Most of the film is life in port, training newbies, boat maintenance and ops prep (presumably quite accurate then), but they do eventually get into action. Interesting use of depth charges at c29 minutes- at least I wasn't familiar with it. YouTube link |

I've been reading a a bit about the MTBs and MGBs and was interested to learn that they would sometimes drop depth charges set for very shallow right in the path of another ship. Sometimes it was effective. |

Have to watch this when I get some time. Cheers! |

Scott, From what I have read it was talked about much more than practiced. The timing had to be perfect and was very difficult to pull off. Seneffe, Thanks for the film! Joe |

Superb find! Thanks for posting Seneffe. Only watched the first 10 minutes so far – saved for later. One thing I noticed is that, apart from the regular navy Lieutenant Commander at the beginning, pretty much all the officers are RNVR – Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve (the 'Wavy Navy', so called because of the wavy stripes). I believe most were boating types, amateur yachtsmen and the like. Oh; and the poshest Canadian accent I've ever heard! Nick |

As I recall, most of the coastal force officers (at least the ones actually on boats) were, in fact, from the RNVR. |

I was amused to see, at about 9:05 to 9:25, how at the time of departure of the boats there was a sudden turn-out of several women, who all noted and followed, rather wistfully, as they motored away down the mole. -Mark (aka: Mk 1) |

Good show, and even has a bit of that gritty feel. Seneffe, thanks for linking this for us! |

That was a lot of fun, but I could have done with some more wrap up at the end. Mr. Baker was a German spy, right? |
