after finishing up some CSA bases, it occurred to me that I wanted an accurate count of my ACW armies. Of course, I could of just counted them, but it was more fun to put the armies out on the kitchen the table… CSA:
USA
I mainly game ACW with RFF, so the totals are in that format: CSA total 152 infantry bases 20 infantry command bases 7 Brigadier Generals 2 Divisional / Corps command bases 12 cannons 7 limbers 6 Brave Colonels. USA Total: 139 Infantry bases 18 infantry command bases 6 Brigadier Generals 3 Divisional / Corps command bases 12 Cannons 9 Limbers 6 Brave Colonels Ut-Oh, looks like the good guys are out numbered Some more pics and hi-larious commentary on the blog… link Thanks for stopping by! -Stew |

Thanks everyone, appreciate the replies. It was fun to parade the armies. Those of with ACW armies should release your inner McClellen. He loved a military parade. 😀 |

Just an observation: why is everyone short of ACW cavalry? I am too. It's easy to find painted 15mm ACW figures for sale, but it's very rare to find cavalry, even rarer to find matching dismounted cavalry. When I started collecting ACW, I committed to painting NONE of them, but I had to break that rule to get limbers, guns, and dismounted cavalry. - Ix |

Hi Ix! I completely forgot about cavalry actually, I have around 10 stands for each side (that includes mounted and dismounted). I found cavalry a big pain to paint and most of the scenarios I was initially interested in playing don't feature cav anyway. Cav actually doesn't feature very much in ACW and doesn't really get interesting until they have repeating rifles. 😀 However now that I've got a good sized collection going there are some scenarios with cav or at least dismounted infantry that are gaining ground in my imagination. So cav might have to be done eventually. |

Scott Mingus did a nice scenario book for cavalry actions in the Gettysburg campaign. It is available inexpensively as a pdf from Wargame Vault. link I too play RF&F. I really enjoy the cavalry games. Just did Falling Waters which is US cavalry against CS infantry retreating across the Potomac. It is a Mingus scenario, but from another book. Tom |

Great looking troops. I've been plodding away at trying to get my confederates finished but it seems like progress is forever slow. |

Don't give up Oppiedog, ACW painting is something of a slog but the armies are worth it. : ) |

"Very nice. Only the"good" guys out number the "bad" guys." Yeah, no, I don't think so. |

Nobody cares about ACW cavalry…too much work for too little usage. |
