Following a successful attempt by Col Bill G to poison the life, I exhumed from old boxes the Matrix /Adanac campaign on the Danube disk, to maybe use instead of the Cyberboardgame…
There, in the Design notes, to further spoil one's tranquility lies this:
"For 1809 campaigns it may be worth locating the good series of articles in MWAN that dealt with generating Napoleon´s Battles scenarios from Victory Games´ 1809, a Kevin Zucker design."
So how can I find these now?

After all, I have all the troops, so if I have to play solo, why not grandiose solo ;)

I think all of the MWAN issues are digitized and available through War-games Vault.

I was looking at this the other day. A little less than half the issues are available.

Hal Thinglum is on TMP. Maybe he has a compendium of subjects in each issue?

Now that would be handy!

Noble Knight Games seems to have a whack of issues:

I miss Magweb. Remember boys and girls always keep an offsite back up.

Tmp message board general look down to Magazines and Periodicals, and page down. you will find the table of contents for most, all?, of the newer … which is to say old Courier magazines but not the old old small magazines.
I would put the link in but my phone does not wish to cooperate

Noble Knight Games seems to have a whack of issues:

Not really. Of the 119 items in the listing at the link, less than 40 are in stock.

I wish there was a registry of topics by issue. I have a complete set, all the way back to #1 [when it was 8.5" x 11" pages].

I tried to sell at HMGS flea market, but no interest.

Maybe I'll try again at Little Wars convention this spring.

Perhaps Noble Knight Games could use an inventory refresh.

I have an almost complete set (down to single digit issues) which I would love to give away but I assume the postage would be too great.

If you could provide some sort of date range indicated in the article, or when that snippet was written, I could try a quick look see. An Author would be good, too.

I just took a stab at various issues, but didn't find what you seek. Found a five or six-part series of articles about combined arms (or lack thereof) in Napoleon's battles in MWAN 85 and surrounding issues, but nothing on campaign using Zucker games that I could see rom the table of contents.

I never put together a list of articles in MWAN. Several people have talked about long ago but nothing was done .

Most files of this game are from 1996++, so the design notes might be quite ancient too.
Mr Magweb, such a pity your wonderful site disapeared, and I always blame myself for not storing everything that could be of use wen I read it.

Jcfrog26 Feb 2019 3:39 a.m. PST

So? No one ever was interested, nor used them? Maybe not good?
Strange. And sad.

Jcfrog,

Just to clarify what you are doing, are you planning on using Zucker's games for the campaign, or to use Campaigns on the Danube for the campaign engine, but want to read the article on best ways to translate the strategic situation into tactical battles?

Jcfrog26 Feb 2019 6:23 a.m. PST

I will use Zucker games. Just bought the computer game again ( as my very ancient version would not work on windows 10) but the expected miniatures option, only works head to head, so the use for solo campaigns is nil, or not better than Zucker's games.
It was a case of not trying to re invent the wheel, if one has done most of the thinking.
I will put more on my site, whenever have time to effectively start the action.
Now busy setting magnets under 1600 bases!

I had been planning to buy the game myself to do it as a solo miniatures campaign. You would advise against that?

Jcfrog26 Feb 2019 9:09 a.m. PST

Yes. You Have to paly hotseat to be able to use minis. I will ask them why only there, but hardly anything will be done, it is a very ancient game, and if seen from forums with obviously very few players.
Otherwise, i might ask. Pbem player nd play semi solo the battles with minis. In the old version there was a editor which also disapered. No way to dpt the oob now.

Hi we use Zuckers new games he has at least 10 games from various campaigns. Most with at least three battles in them, these vary from the "day of Battle" so moving into position, and more importantly for me "march to battle" this can be 4 to 5 days before the main battle. Each turn is an hour. The reason we use these is that they have a limited scope of the campaign so it is doable in a few sessions. The other fantastic thing is you just play the board game then transfer the battles from the board to the table. We us From Valmy to Waterloo in 6 mm so I have created an acetate template to capture the battle fields to move to the table. The best thing is that since Valmy is 15 min turns, we play four turns on the table then move to the baordgame and units move towards the battle and might even enter the table. I found this is great way to create lots of really interesting battles on the table. Highly recommended both as board games and as a campaign system for miniatures. The counters are brigades so easily converted for most miniatures games

We are getting ready to play the 1809 Board game with the following battles, and as I stated not only the day of the battle but the march to the battle with each "battle" campaign taking 2-4 days.

Abensberg, 19-20 April—Napoleon 55,000 vs. Louis 34,000 Eckmühl, 21-22 April—Napoleon 60,000 vs. Charles 77,000 Aspern-Essling, 21-22 May—Napoleon 66,000 vs. Charles 95,800 Wagram, 5-6 July—Napoleon 160,000 vs. Charles 140,000

We are also looking at the 1815 campaign that not only has all the battels but the entire campaign from the crossing of the Souffle to start the campaign, and then the map extends to Brussels. Some great potential for miniatures campaigning here.
The link to Zuckers site is below, lots of great games and a wealth of information in the free magazines.
