As a kid had many 1/32 model tanks, good looking detail

The technology to produce models is perhaps now better than ever ,hence the detail that is being produced on the modern model kits.

The 1/32nd scale kits were Monogram, how well I remember them. Just after doing a series of kits the rest of the industry, led in good part by Tamiya, settled on 1/35th. Was reboxed in 2014 by the way:

Those old Monogram kits were actually quite good – by the standards of the day. So were many of their aircraft kits!

They were very good for the day and not too bad compared to today's models. One only wonders what would have happened had they done them in 1/35th. Scroll through the list to see some of the other armor kits they offered in 1/32nd.
