"Painting in haste. Last night, after work, prepared the figures primed and began to paint. Today finished. Now the Saxon brigade has its own commander – Major General Heinrich Christian Magnus von Klengel von Vinceti (von Klengel) and an adjutant to give orders to the division commander…."

I now next to nothing about Saxons (other than heavy cavalry) but thought the great advantage of their generals, was the chance to paint them in bright red breeches! Optional I think, however.

Love the piping on turnbacks and collar (latter is not easy!)

The proper rank terminology for him would be Generalmajor (in German) which equates to a British brigadier, an American brigadier general, or a French general de brigade, i.e a one-star general. A true major general (two-star) would be a generalleutnant (German) or Generla de division (French).

Germanic (including Prussian and some Austrian) generalk officer ranks are always confusing to English speaking wargamers.

P.S. I'm retired US Army and had to know rank equivalents for US, UK, NATO, and Warsaw Pact forces as part of my job.

Yes, Saxon Generals – usually with red trousers – could be also white – for more -

@ColCampbell

Funny, I was under the impression that in the German Bundeswehr a Brigade General was a one star general.

Thanks for that. I do agree that red was just an option, which, the only time I ever painted a Saxon general, appealed to me.

ColCampbell, your place is reserved in Heaven, surely. Had the Warsaw Pact ever exploited that Fulda Gap business, I can see the modern version of the Gneisenau to von Bulow Message..

"I have the honour to etc. If you would be pleased to move your Corps….at your convenience of course…I am your obedient servant (although this is meant to be actually a direct order)"

Your job would have been sort out who ordered whom, to do what. While lots of bangs and crashes outside and what is that funny smell?
