Are these well post Napoleonic? The cap on some, with the falling plume is very Crimean War era-ish?

Agreed, I guess it depends on which Napoleonic Empire!

I gather that 1848 was quite an eventful year all around Europe……..

Bit like 1989. May you live in interesting times. These are meant to be 1848 it seems.

The painting style is unusual…….almost Impressionist….as Skipper John suggests, it is different…….and why not?
