At this stage, we would hope to have gotten rid of the last Hornets in 4-5 years. All of the remaining 71 RAAF F/A-18A and Bs are scheduled to be retired by 2023, replaced by the F-35A Lightning (1 18 ship Squadron is being formed now). 24 Super Hornets and 11 or 12 Growlers will be retained beyond that for Strike and Electronic Warfare missions. Canada is buying 24 of our F/A-18 frames to extend the life of their Hornet fleet, pending a decision on their replacement(s).
