Following the Torch landings in Nov. 1942, the Germans sent reinforcements to Tunisia. One of the first units over was the 11th Para. Pioneer Btn (Witzig's). The Osprey book, "German Airborne Divisions: MTO" provides an O.B. – A HQ section; a signals platoon; three companies; and some attached units. (1) Does anyone have any more detailed O.B.'s – particularly the official KStN charts? I'm guessing three platoons per company. Not sure if there would have been a light mortar (50mm?) as part of platoon HQ – I can see such a weapon being useful for laying down smoke. (2) The O.B. in the book does not include a weapons/support company. Would heavy weapons, such as tripod MG's and mortars have been decentralized at company/platoon HQ? (3) My internet search included a photo of a German 37 with the hollow charge stick grenade with a caption that it had been captured in Nov. '42 from that unit. I'm not sure where a 37mm AT gun would have been attached to a pioneer unit. Any thoughts? |
