They have a really nice "style" to them.

They look a bit drab. AFAIK Cossacks usually favoured bright colours.

Not sure where you are getting your Cossack info from HM.
Colour choice is deliberate.

Ospreys (e.g. the series on Polish renaissance armies) and other colour reference sources (e.g. Funcken), Jock.
