On a scale of 0 (none) to 10 (maximum), what is your level of interest in gaming the Alamo? |

"John Leahy 10. I own the Hudson and Allen Alamo." Me too, and loads of Imex and other figures for it. It's a great piece of terrain. I want to build San Antonio de Bexar too. Mike Bunkermeister Creek Bunker Talk |

Probably 2ish. I have too much other stuff to do, and not enough time. That and the Mexican-American War or Maximillian is more interesting to me in that general theme. |

1 on my own 8 with someone else's figures and terrain. Played it alot as a child with building blocks and figures from the Marx Fort Apache and Civil War playsets. Never owned the Alamo set. My daughter has some of the BMC figures. |

1 – As a two player scenario. 8 – As a multiplayer game where Mexican subordinate commanders are competing for "glory" (victory points) by being the most key person in the Texans' defeat (depleting their troops, destroying their objectives, conserving your troops and resources) set against the Texan player trying to earn enough glory (repelling advances, enduring over time, taking out key Mexican infrastructure) to become a rallying point for the future (basically, winning more glory than the top Mexican player). |

I've played it when it was the only horse & musket game on offer, and probably would again. but there isn't enough tactical variety--enough actual choices, really--to make it especially attractive. I don't mind losing, but I want to lose being clever, not just rolling good saving throws. |

3 for just the Alamo… 7ish if you look at the Texas Revolution as a whole. I'd like to do some of the small skirmishes as they didn't involve a lot of combatants and you could easily pull a few figures together. I would also like to look at the scenario put forward in Forget The Alamo—if Travis had chosen Mission Concepcion to defend. |

10 I've always liked "last stand at an isolated outpost" sort of games – Rorke's Drift, Camerone, and of course, the Alamo. They are a great chance for cooperative play, with all the players on one side and the gamemaster or rules taking the part of the attacking hordes. They make for some of the best games! |

0. I've never understood playing a game where you are guaranteed to die, but you "win" by taking a longer time to kick the bucket than the original dude. |
Gone Fishing | 06 Feb 2019 7:33 a.m. PST |
If one looks at the game only in a competitive sense, you're right. But if, instead, it is more about the narrative, the story created by a game, then "kicking the bucket" presents no problems at all – in fact, might be more memorable than winning in the conventional sense; it's all about dying gloriously, singing "Yellow Rose of Texas" even as one falls beneath the flashing bayonets of the enemy. |

8. I think a lot of the attraction for me is due to: Fond memories of the Marx set I had as a kid Having visited the site |

I played and still have a board game that came in the old OOP Conflict mag. Pretty interesting. But bottom line Davy & the Boys probability of winning was low. And the Mexicans take large loses regardless. I think I heard/read Santa Anna referred to his troops as "chickens". Not because they were fearful. But they were very expendable. My cousin had the Marx Alamo set. We loved it ! |

And when I played,I had one or two Mexican units. Took 11 turns/days,and the last Alamo defender to drop in the game was Bowie, and my unit performed the job. And Bowie went down swingin'. My units took some serious hits during the course of the game, however. |
