I know this is heresy to some, but I removed the original Foundry heads on some unarmored Caesarian Legionary and grafted on Victrix Republican heads.

Reasons were threefold:
1. I have a Punic Wars Republican Roman army.
2. I felt the Foundry heads were out of scale, on the large side.
3. Victrix sculpting is superb, but the older plastics are a bit wooden in pose.

FWIW, the woodenness is definitely not an issue with Victrix's newer stuff.

Looks good; means that one could add crests to the crestless Foundry minis, and use them in the earlier period.

They would work well on the aventine figures too!

Great job, they look made for each other.

I agree, they look great. Do you get a lot of extra heads in the Victrix box?

Grunt186102 Feb 2019 2:06 p.m. PST

@Marcus Yes, the Victrix R. Roman sprues come with plenty of extra heads, (A Celtic Warriors dream).

Looks very good! I have done the same thing with some.

I have a lot of Foundry Greeks standing holding spears and a lot of Macedonians holding pikes. They all have the same heads/helmets so that will be something to do with them with all the extra Victrix Greek heads I have (and then some of the Foundry ones I remove will go onto others).

While they are beautiful,I found the plastic Victrix vertical crests to be quite fragile.
I'm not at all rough with my troops, but I have more than one crestLESS helm that did not start the campaign that way.

@Margites7 I have a simple solution for the snapping crests corundum. If you give the circumference of the base spindle a coat of thin cyanoacrylate glue it seems to give them a new lease on life. Also, the thin cyanoacrylate does not obscure detail, but ads significant strength.
