Are there any historical wargamers located near 29 stumps?

Only another Marine would know to call it "29 stumps."

My first Marine Corps birthday was at the stumps, at Camp Wilson. March on the cake, in the sandy wind.

I have heard El Toro in Santa Anna is long gone? Spent plenty of time at Pendleton but never made it to the stumps.

El Toro and Tustin are both long gone.

My gaming buddy (my son) is being transferred to the stumps from Lejeune and we were discussing if there were any gaming groups located reasonably near enough.

From my understanding the stumps has changed a bit. Now they have a few more buildings and there are actual barracks for units visiting for training. Back in my day, (being salty here) when we went for training we slept in CP tents, if we were lucky. Most of my time however, was spent at Pendleton out at Talega living in Quonset huts with kerosene heaters.

I loved the Quonset huts with the heaters in the middle of the floor. I first slept in them in Boot at MCRD San Deigo. They were right along the grinder. At ITR at San Onofre we reverted back to the tents. 1967 --Quite cozy.

I will be in Twentynine Palms in a few weeks for work. It would be great to do some gaming during that trip if you find any gamers.

Yep, tents. Had to put them up and tear them down. Later they came up with some fiber glass huts that were like sauna ovens during the day :p

Used to game there in the company day room. Way back in 78! they took away the pool sticks and balls in case there was a fight. So being gamers asked the XO if we could use it as a sand table with the cover on of course as a sand table. He thought that was an Outstanding idea! After many many trips out the front hatch wala sand table for micro armor.Old Angriff rules on many a Fri an Sat night on phone watch…….ah the old days. Ask around and post a note at the library. Good luck "Semper Fi"
