Do you play miniature games with armor, infantry and aircraft (strictly in a ground support role) set during the Cold War period (1946-1989) at skirmish and/or higher levels? It can be proxy wars (e.g., Vietnam, Arab-Israeli) or hypothetical Cold War-Gone-Hot (e.g. WWIII in Europe).

Pan Marek30 Jan 2019 3:48 p.m. PST

Working on a Yom Kippur project now. The key is to pick the right rule set. Too complicated and I'll never get anyone to play.

Just polishing up Arab Israeli What a Tanker now, and painting little tanks for same.

Personal logo etotheipi Sponsoring Member of TMP30 Jan 2019 4:19 p.m. PST

Yes. The majority of them are Soviet resistance actions.

John Leahy Sponsoring Member of TMP30 Jan 2019 4:35 p.m. PST

Have been since the late 70s.

D A THB30 Jan 2019 4:45 p.m. PST

Vietnam in 28mm and hopefully one day Cold War gone Hot in 20mm.

FoxtrotPapaRomeo30 Jan 2019 4:55 p.m. PST

Canadian, British, US and Warpac – started out 1/90 Roskopf, evolving to Team Yankee and BPM, plus a swag of 1/72 and 1/87 stuff.

Tend to wargame Combat Teams and Battlegroups sort of 1 on 1 basis (less much of the support/specialist vehicles).

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP30 Jan 2019 5:05 p.m. PST

I used to do Cold Wars at 1:1 in 1800mm, but I'd pretty well burned out by 1989 after 17 years. Horse and musket in smaller scales has lasted better.

21eRegt30 Jan 2019 5:36 p.m. PST

Once a year, by tradition. Linked games for Fulda Gap kind of thing. Soviets/Warsaw Pact are winning.

KSmyth30 Jan 2019 5:41 p.m. PST

Did a Cuban Missile Crisis airstrike a couple of years ago. Would like to do more Cold War air games.

Thresher0130 Jan 2019 6:04 p.m. PST

Of course.

Chalfant30 Jan 2019 6:34 p.m. PST

On the wishlist with 3mm pico armour.

NavyVet30 Jan 2019 8:03 p.m. PST

I am a true cold warrior. I was in the USN for 4 years , 1973 to 1977. Saw a lot of Soviet naval vessels. I guess you cold I played a more realistic type of Cold War. I also game a lot of Cold War battles in 3mm Pico Armor.

Rudysnelson30 Jan 2019 8:43 p.m. PST

I have played Cold War battles for fun and work. I was signed for all of the SimCenters miniatures for the First Infantry Division since I was the S4 of the MI Bn.

UshCha30 Jan 2019 10:13 p.m. PST

Been playing for 10 years at 1/72 and a bit less for 1/144. Usually not more than a company on the attacking side.
Rules were so "gamey" and too may dice we wrote our own.

Lascaris30 Jan 2019 10:56 p.m. PST

Yes. Vietnam and soon Cold War gone hot.

Martin Rapier30 Jan 2019 11:57 p.m. PST

Yes, AIW 67 and 73, WW3 late 70s early 80s, plus various Bush wars (Aden etc).

Trierarch31 Jan 2019 12:20 a.m. PST

Of course we do…
And Naval and air combat as well
Both the great unfought war and various historical and imaginary wars.

Lion in the Stars31 Jan 2019 12:27 a.m. PST

Vietnam in 15mm, working on 1980s Soviets.

Vigilant31 Jan 2019 2:31 a.m. PST

Yes. Working on 28mm Cold War Gone Hot at the moment. Have played Vietnam in various scales over the years. Also building up South African forces in Angola in 15mm. Malaya in 28mm played a few times.

ZULUPAUL Supporting Member of TMP31 Jan 2019 3:34 a.m. PST

No, I have no interest in that era of gaming.

redbanner414531 Jan 2019 6:06 a.m. PST

I'm not crazy about playing wars that happened during my lifetime, real or potential, but will play when other guys in my group run such.

Personal logo Stosstruppen Supporting Member of TMP31 Jan 2019 6:07 a.m. PST

Have been playing 80's Cold War in Germany. Will be doing Vietnam this year or next as well as Rhodesia. Would like to get into AIW but not sure what scale yet.

Garryowen Supporting Member of TMP31 Jan 2019 8:11 a.m. PST

Yes, like some others here, I was Cold War Warrior, US ARMY, '79-'90.

But no … all I do now is Sci-fi … evil grin

Col Durnford31 Jan 2019 8:53 a.m. PST

Yes in 28mm mainly small scale infantry actions.

Vietnam – U.S., Anzac, NVA, and NLF.
Africa – Portuguese, Rhodesia, and African forces.

Both with a few Chinese and Soviet advisors.

I have a VDV platoon waiting in the wings for the painting table.

15mm and 28mm Fanatik31 Jan 2019 8:58 a.m. PST

As for myself, TY got me into this period and a smaller scale I once thought I would never touch. Now I'm even thinking about getting into FOW. Then I'll have to change the scale reference in my TMP handle.

I have no interest in Ultramodern asymmetrical insurgency warfare though. Not so much that It's "too close to home" but because I prefer near-peer battles.

PVT64131 Jan 2019 10:02 a.m. PST

Yes set in Lebanon/Syria 1983-85.

nickinsomerset31 Jan 2019 10:53 a.m. PST

Yes, my Brigade and potential foes from 86-88 and just finished 1964.

Tally Ho!

If some one else sets up the game, sure.

vdal181231 Jan 2019 11:11 a.m. PST

Yes, not very often but we have played some cold war games at the club. Mostly Vietnam.

22ndFoot31 Jan 2019 11:29 a.m. PST

Was then (1:1) and am now (6mm and 15mm). I have always played Brits.

DeRuyter31 Jan 2019 11:36 a.m. PST

Only 1:1. Don't venture beyond WWII with minis.

mghFond31 Jan 2019 1:06 p.m. PST

I do Iran-Iraq war with 3mm Pico stuff.

Pan Marek31 Jan 2019 1:44 p.m. PST

Hey! You guys who do AIW, what rulesets do you use?
I want to do 1 stand = squad/fireteam.
Any that are not too complicated?

Ragbones31 Jan 2019 1:48 p.m. PST

No.

BF's Fate of a Nation seems like a popular choice.

Pan Marek31 Jan 2019 2:21 p.m. PST

Fanatik- I picked that one up, although I'm leery due to the whole FOW thing. It has alot of info on the opposing armies.

M1Fanboy31 Jan 2019 4:25 p.m. PST

Yes,
Without regret.

creativeguy01 Feb 2019 10:13 a.m. PST
