28mm Fanatic, To exclude tactical WW2 boardgames would be a gross omission, IMO. Some of these games are excellent and easier to set up than the necessary miniatures & terrain, and have a smaller footprint on the tabletop too. LnLT is my favorite tactical skirmish system at the moment. I have "Old School Tactical" too but haven't played it yet. I found the "Conflict of Heroes" to be a bit too clunky with the various damage chits and their effects. But, to each his own. I have ASL too, but I can't see myself ever playing that again. |

The "latest" iteration of Conflict of Heroes has streamlined activation and I feel is a much improved version of the game although it still uses the damage chits. Free download from Academy Games: See Resources at: academygames.com/pages/sos |

1/6 scale for a single vignetted figure (my personal character), which can be re-posed turn by turn. Rest are counters on a paper map. Most recently used NUTS rules.

I play 54mm, with plastic Army Men. Incredibly cheap, mounted on 2"-square MDF bases, which are textured. What a blast! Tanks and vehicles are around 40mm scale, but they work for our purposes; true 54mm scale tanks and trucks would break my hobby bank, at around $12 USD-$20 per vehicle… We typically play with 12-15 tanks, per side, and around 6-10 trucks, DUKS, and jeeps, per side. Putting together a 12-foot by 30-foot table, for a city battle. Will be mostly covered by MDF buildings, 1-5 stories tall, with catwalks behind the windows to allow the upper floors to be used. Hoping to put the game on in March. It will feature around 150 figures per side, so maybe a bit large for a "skirmish" game, but it will be fun… Cheers! |

1/100 Currently, 1/6 for the backyard (amazing how fun this can be when you own a full platoon of SS in this scale with the Grandkids), and still have enough 20mm left to skirmish with. Oh, to me 20mm is God's true scale as this is been the most common scale to play WWII with since I got into gaming WWII over 40 years ago. |

For me 20mm is the the Goldilocks scale, not too big, not too small. 1/72 scale has the widest choice of AFV and vehicles in metal, resin and plastic. I like the look of 28mm and use it to play skirmish games in other periods, just not WWII. |

LIES ALL LIES, the one true scale ( both literal and metaphorical) is 1/144. Works for skirmish and big(ish) battles. Navel folk are allowed another scaleas its not the same as land gaming. |

For me 20mm works the best 1. terrain is the most easy to collect, HO/OO model railway, plus resin, printable scenics, card and MDF 2. 1/72 -1/76-20mm military and civilian plastic, metal, resin & vehicles, artillery aircraft and ship kits, the widest and most complete selection out there 3 plastic, metal and resin miniatures. 4. small enough to play good sized games, big enough so you can paint detail. Cheers Matt |
