In a recent poll, one of the top vote-getters was:

limit forum discussion to tabletop gaming or military concerns

Do you think this should be added as an official TMP forum rule?

Might be difficult as times to distinguish between a gaming and non-gaming topic – like a movie release versus gaming possibilities

Having said that I come here to read and share about gaming and military history topics

Not for me either, I think most folk keep to military matters most of the time anyway, and that's good enough for me!

Actually, this thread would itself fall foul of such a rule!!!

So, no miniatures which aren't intended for a game? Tango would be crushed.

No. Much as I would love to see an end to franchise SF debates and polls on bands, there is not a good clear line. And this is the Fifth censorship proposal.

Kevin C26 Jan 2019 4:07 p.m. PST

I don't understand where all of this sudden need for change is coming from. Everything has been very cordial on the miniaturespage for some time now. It seems as though far fewer people have been earning a stay in the doghouse. Let's just leave well enough alone an move on.

And this is the Fifth censorship proposal.

Fifth and last of the Top 5 vote-getters from the recent poll.

A bit of TMP history here: Years ago, the community voted to separate "on topic" and "off topic" boards to separate forums, which is why we have the main forum and the TMP Plus ("off topic") forum.

Since then, several proposals have been voted in which have added exceptions for the main forum – for instance, the Media boards currently allow discussion of movies, computer games, etc; and the Utter Drivel is a sort of miscellanous board.

I too don´t think it´s a good idea. There would be an awful lot of "what does this have to do with gaming?" responses to posts.

Silurian26 Jan 2019 5:34 p.m. PST

I'm going to buck the general trend and say 'yes'.

I would rather all the rest of it, movies, computer games, display miniatures, drivel, etc, was on the Plus boards.

"The snowflakes need to toughen up, or melt."

Wow, rather unnecessarily insulting.
I presume you're just talking about folks who have a different political opinion to yourself?
Personally, I thought the question referred to 'anything' non-gaming/military related on the main board.

But perhaps you're right. I do tend to cry when other people don't have the same favorite Abba song to me…

When it comes to limiting freedom, perhaps especially speech, there should be a really good reason for any limit. Generally that should be harm to others. We have the ability to subscribe or not to various boards. If a chocolate chip cookie recipe shows up in the wrong place and you have to see it and not click on it, that does that hurt you so very much?

The Hollow Men with apologies to T.S. Eliot

Mistah Kurtz – he dead.

A penny for the Old Guy

I

We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
Our dried voices, when
We whisper together
Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
or rats' feet over broken glass
In our dry cellar

Shape without form, shade without colour,
Paralysed force, gesture without motion;

Those who have crossed
With direct eyes, to death's other kingdom
Remember us – if at all – not as lost
Violent souls, but only
As the hollow men
The stuffed men.

II

Eyes I dare not meet in dreams
In death's dream kingdom
These do not appear:
There, the eyes are
Sunlight on a broken column
There, is a tree swinging
And voices are
In the wind's singing
More distant and more solemn
Than a fading star.

Let me be no nearer
In death's dream kingdom
Let me also wear
Such deliberate disguises
Rat's coat, crowskin, crossed staves
In a field
Behaving as the wind behaves
No nearer –

Not that final meeting
In the twilight kingdom

III

This is the dead land
This is cactus land
Here the stone images
Are raised, here they receive
The supplication of a dead man's hand
Under the twinkle of a fading star.

Is it like this
In death's other kingdom
Waking alone
At the hour when we are
Trembling with tenderness
Lips that would kiss
Form prayers to broken stone.

IV

The eyes are not here
There are no eyes here
In this valley of dying stars
In this hollow valley
This broken jaw of our lost kingdoms

In this last of meeting places
We grope together
And avoid speech
Gathered on this beach of this tumid river

Sightless, unless
The eyes reappear
As the perpetual star
Multifoliate rose
Of death's twilight kingdom
The hope only
Of empty men.

V

Here we go round the prickly pear
Prickly pear prickly pear
Here we go round the prickly pear
At five o'clock in the morning.

Between the idea
And the reality
Between the motion
And the act
Falls the Shadow

For Thine is the Kingdom

Between the conception
And the creation
Between the emotion
And the response
Falls the Shadow

Life is very long

Between the desire
And the spasm
Between the potency
And the existence
Between the essence
And the descent
Falls the Shadow

For Thine is the Kingdom

For Thine is
Life is
For Thine is the

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but with a chocolate cookie recipe on the wrong board of a wargames forum.
