Best Fantasy 28mm?

25% said "Reaper"
15% (tie) said "North Star" or "Games Workshop"
11% said "Crocodile Games"

Bet some fanboys are in shock.

"Best" being subjective….but I agree. 😂

Northstar has some great miniatures.

GW are over done and over priced as well.

Most of GWs are plastic, and not as multi part as they once were. This means a lot of "blurred" detail where two or more areas of detail meet on the "side edge" of the figure (where the mold line runs). This requires painting details from scratch and often includes entire blank blocks of plastic where air would be on a metal mini. Basically a pain in the bum.

Reaper definitely wins there.

GWs are just more refined in concept and character design (worts and all), where reaper still seems to favour artistic talents of the individual sculptors.

It's like comparing Macca's overly refined generic food (GW), to a Michelin star restaurant which allows it chefs to be creative (Reaper).

People think Reaper minis are 28mm?!? Ever stood one next to an actual 28mm mini?

The H Man27 Jan 2019 7:19 p.m. PST

Ever stood a modern GW, or most other "28" next to a "true" 28 (whatever that is?

In general, 28mm is the name given to a figure larger than 25mm, but smaller than 40mm. Or thereabouts.

There is no point being to particular. Even many companies offer a mix of actual sizes in their 28mm ranges, if you care to pull out the micrometre. Are we talking eye hight or the top of the head or hat or helmet, do we include integral bases, are the figures human size at 28mm, or hobbit sized at 28mm? Too much grey.

About 28mm is the idea here, I would assume.

It's not a difficult standard: 28mm is an average height man measured sole to eye. Why would anybody muddy it up with references to integral bases or hobbits?!?

And if you're going to distinguish between 25mm and 28mm, then why would you not do the same between 28mm and 32mm, which is what most Reaper come closer to.

"It's not a difficult standard: 28mm is an average height man measured sole to eye. Why would anybody muddy it up with references to integral bases or hobbits?!?"

If only that were true. You go and get all the companies to follow that one and you'd be a true hero.

Hey, why all the hobbit bashing?

If you want to talk 28 and 32 collywobbles go see GW, I think there nearing 54mm these days (not including Inquisitor).

From 25-35ish is the basic size for most modern fantasy games. It grew from one inch years back and is in danger of catching up with 54mm. At any rate, most people simply term them 28mm. So you have 6mm, 15mm, 25mm, 28mm, 54mm. With so many versions of 28mm, I too can see 32mm, 35mm and 40mm becoming more standard (if they are not already).

Personally, I measure to the top of the head. Let me know where I can pick up a copy of the rule book you seem to have with you.
