I took the pics in automatic(Jpg I believe) in a black photobox slightly above eye level. I didn't remove any background rather just didn't add one as I often do. Actually placement in the box was important as all the light is outside the box so too far forward near opening and the outside light it comes out grey but too far back away from the light it's too dark. I know it sounds strange but it's how I get the figures to come out correctly if using a black background. If I use a non black background it's just the opposite and I need light in the box.

This method may not work with your camera, but it's how it works with mine.
