…. Dong Ha Bridge for three hours.

"Dong Ha, the northernmost city of South Vietnam, had once been bustling with military activity.

Home of the 4th Marines, a major helicopter base, and surrounded by artillery firebases, it had directly supported the Marines at Con Thien and the eastern demilitarized zone (DMZ). It had provided the starting point for the relief of the besieged Khe Sahn garrison.

Dong Ha also possessed the best bridge over the Cua Viet River and the direct approach to Hue City, the ancient, ceremonial capital of Vietnam…."

First learned of Capt. Ripley when my brother and I watched 'Ride the Thunder.'

The movie concentrated on what happened after the war, but it did spark research into the battle itself.

A very impressive man.

The South Vietnamese 3rd Marines and and 20th Tank Battalion were pretty impressive as well.

I think he is the only USMC to be in the US ARMY RANGER HALL of FAME. As he was a grad of that very "challenging" and difficult training.

Yes indeed Rangers Lead the Way, even in the Marines. My ranger buddy in Ranger school was a Seal.

Spike (really his name) was a tough son of a gun – as if you doubted it.

One of my Plt Ldrs when I was a Mech Co. Cdr, was a former Navy SEAL. Plus a grad for RANGER School …

I even had a former USN "Hard Hat" salvage Diver too. When attached to a Tank Bn with all my Officers' various "badges", tabs, wings, etc. One of the Tankers asked if we were some sort of commando outfit ! evil grin
