Inspired by others, here is my stab at this. 1 base = 1 company, 1 hex = 1km. First play test, with more to follow.

Thanks!

I've been working on something similar but based on the West End Games Air&Armor boardgame and 1 mile hexes.

The key is 'What can you spot?'

Infantry actually become useful as they dominate AFVs in close terrain.

Makes for good games.

Yes, and any proper rules reflect that. As well as modern Infantry do have AT missiles organic to their TO&Es. That have a long range as well. E.g. the US TOW range @ 3750m. So if you can see the target, you can engage it. If one Hex = 1KM, e.g. the TOW should have a 3 Hex rg.

I agree with you both. TOW armed units have a range of 3 years, and I have tried to make atgm effective but primarily defensive in nature. Still expermimenting, thanks for looking. Should have another posted in ancouple of days.

Yes, also note the old M47 Dragon MAW that we were issued, '79-'90, had a max. rg. of 1000m. And today the Javelin, the replacement for the Dragon, is over 4000m, IIRC.

For ATGM's, I have stipulated that they 1) May not move and fire in the same activation or 2) combine fire with other units.

As a consequence (if you are familiar with the tank on tank rules) it costs more AP to have multiple ATGM armed units attack the same target at the same time. The goal

As for ranges, I have M-113 equipped Infantry companies with a range of 1 hex and Bradley equipped with an ATGM range of 3, but a regular attack at 1 hex.

Sounds right ! You can't effectively fire an ATGM [AFAIK] from a moving vehicle.

Yes, if you are counting the M113 Co. has 1 Dragon/Sqd. And you can fire the Dragon mounted from the track as well as dismounted.

Note my M113 Mech Co. that I commanded '87-'89[18 months] had an organic M901 ITV Section of two. And there was an AT Co.[Echo Co.] with 3 Plts of 4 ITVs each. old fart That could have a Plt attached to a Mech Co. Or a Bn asset for the BC/Op Officer to place in Support By Fire Positions, etc. Which is generally what the BC did. This may be of some interest … TMP link
