The Voyforum website has sadly fallen upon hard times; due to (IMO) lax site management, the site has become overrun with spam and participation has dropped off considerably. However, in its heyday it was a first-class discussion site for Age of Sail naval topics with some very well informed individuals taking part. Two such gentlemen of note (there are/were others) are Albert Parker and John Tredrea. Anything posted by Albert Parker can be taken directly to the bank. John Tredrea has an encyclopedic knowledge of the naval lists of the major naval powers in the Age of Sail; see for example his wonderful book "Russian Warships in the Age of Sail 1696-1860" (ignore the pissy Amazon reviews – Tredrea's work on the Russian Navy = Rif Winflied's work on the British Navy) and represents an absolute steal for the price.

Despite the site's current sad state, the Voyforum archive remains a valuable source of good information for anyone willing to invest the time to mine it.

FWIW.
