The author of Frostgrave, Joseph McCullough, has written a solo/cooperative game using the Frostgrave mechanics.
A kingdom stands on the brink of destruction, as the vast realm called the Shadow Deep slowly swallows everything in its path. As the army fights to contain the tide of evil creatures teeming up out of the black clouds, the kingdom's best soldiers, the rangers, must venture down into the shadows to gather information, rescue prisoners, and ambush enemy supply lines. It is a desperate fight against overwhelming odds, but every little victory brings another day of hope.Rangers of Shadow Deep is a solo and co-operative tabletop miniatures game, in which players create their ranger, gather companions, and play through a series of missions in their fight to hold back the darkness. If their rangers survive, they will grow in power and ability, and be sent on more difficult, dangerous and intricate assignments. I just painted up my Ranger and his companions. I imagine my Ranger is a Captain of a band of Soldiers. Hence the uniforms.
These are the Oathmark Human box set.
My Ranger, is an Oathmark Human Champion from Northstar
Here are 2 Archers/Hunters. These are from the Human Plastic box set.
Here are my red shirts…er brave companions. Again Plastics from the Human box set. The Box set allows you to make Spear, Sword or Bowmen. It's a good deal.
Everybody smile! I hope to get a game in soon. Cheers, Xin |

Good looking minis. It's one of the few Frostgrave and Oathmark boxes I never bought because I've already got a ton of humans. I've played all of the first 3 missions with my 2 boys. We've really enjoyed it. The boys weren't as interested in Frostgrave with it's head to head action but this has them wanting to play. We need to get some suitable giant fly minis because they are so common in the game. Had something workable for the rest so far. I'm waiting on the print copy of the book to come and slowly painting up stuff for the Burning Light campaign before we continue. |

Nice. Late to the party as usual, I finally got around to buying Frostgrave. And now all the cool kids are playing RotSD… oh well. How do the Oathmark Humans scale up against other Fantasy figs like Reaper? |

Oh now Northstar is going to get more money from me. Too bad that GW forgot how to make decent miniatures. |

How do the Oathmark Humans scale up against other Fantasy figs like Reaper? Fairly well though with some Reaper miniatures they might be a tad taller but I have found that the scale quite well with Mantic and GW miniatures. Oh and far cheaper and better than what GW has these days. |

Dentatus, Mithmee, I think they are a little smaller than Reaper and GW. They scale really well with GW's LOTR figures. To help balance them out. I mount all the FG/FGA/Oath figures on Slotta Bases. Taller figures like Reaper I mount on fender washers. If you want I can take a comparison pic. Xin/Jeff |

Thanks Mithmee and Xintao. I figured the plastic human soldiers from Oathmark, Frostgrave/Ghost Archi, and SAGA/Gripping Beast would all be about the same. Which is fine for nameless fodder. |

"now all the cool kids are playing RotSD" By cool kids do you mean those of us that have no friends or gaming group? lol Xintao, that's kind of what I do for basing as well. The bigger Reaper minis get mounted on the thin Frostgrave/Renedra bases while the shorter Frostgrave minis go on thicker GW/Reaper bases. Balances them a bit. |

I mix Gripping Beast and Fireforge minis and bits with the Frostgrave/Oathmark stuff with no big issues. Generally the main difference is how the heads and necks are sculpted. Some have a socket in the torse and the neck attached to the head and some have a flat spot at the base of the head and a neck on the torso. Nothing an exacto knife and tiny glob of greenstuff can't fix in a couple minutes. |

It looks very good. What's the figure count and type that you need. It may very well be my next project! |

The ranger's warband is usually 8 minis max. The types vary depending on what you want. The rangers can be designed for most of the standard fantasy classes. Most of the companions are warrior types but there are rogue (basic thief), arcanist (light fighter with reading skills) and conjuror (magic user with staff) as well as hounds and raptors. A lot of them are straight from Frostgrave with slight tweaks for Shadowdeep. It would be dirt simple to use anything from Frostgrave. For monsters the main thing I don't have is giant flies. Other than a couple things the rest were standard fair for fantasy as well. I did swap goblins for gnolls as I don't own any of the Northstar gnolls. I want to paint up a few more things before me and the kids do the next campaign. Here's a reference sheet I made up of all the companions and monsters from the rule book. link |

thanks a ton Zinkala! That comes super handy. I think I'm covered at 80%. Maybe a troll, the terror wing and big flies. I might use stirges instead of the "big" flies. |

@ Zinkala I've been pondering using 15mm "Prime Flying Swarm" figures from Clear Horizon Miniatures for Giant Flies. Unfortunately, I haven found any finished images of the minis to verify their viability – only illustrations and the odd WIP photo of a master. link and link |
