Greetings and Happy New Years. I had a quick question for anyone who is up on the fluff of the Imperial Knight Houses. Post Heresy, I was wondering if there is any precedent for Knight Houses using escorting infantry in battle. I know it's not in the rules for Knights but I was hoping there was something mentioned in the fluff other than Skitarii or Imperial Guard. I thought it would be fun to paint up some infantry based on a Knights House colors (maybe using Scions). Cheers for any tips. |

As I recall in all the stuff about Imperial Knights they don't mention supports except from, say Imperial Guard or Space Marines although some of the Knight Worlds have alliances with Forge Worlds so presumably as you note could have Skitarii, and when the Knights are called to battle it sounds like they go as groups of Knights On the other hand I would certainly think they could – after all, nothing says Knight more than a retinue of suitably liveried lackeys and someone has to retrieve, support and clean the bloody things I would defer for the final answer to this but I would think especially for logistical support they would have suitable liveried followers |

Post Heresy Knight houses are allied to either the Forge Worlds and the Mechanicum or the Imperium (unless they are Freeblades). Many develop close ties to specific Space Marine Chapters or Imperial Army regiments and some are allied with Rogue Traders etc. They do not, in general, have their own military forces. For what you want to do, I'd go with a Knight House allied to a Rogue Trader. You could paint his Imperial army regiment in the Knight House colors (with his appropriate emblem of course)and say they are attached to the Knight banner. |

If you are scanning the Fluff and not the rules, you'll want to take a look back at Titan Legions 2nd edition . They had rules & background for "Tech-Gaurd Titan Defense Companies", including both infantry and mechanized divisions. Also Check Out WD 184 &185 Take a Look Here for a quick overview:: link Hey, it's a Precedent, right…?
It may also be worth your time to look 'way back to WD 126 and 1st edition Adeptus Titanicus, where Knight Households were very first introduced into the milieu: (Look around pp 32). No specific rules for support infantry like 2nd ed, but a lot of "between the lines" stuff concerning the relationship w/ IG.

The titans have skitarii of various sorts. I don't know about post heresy but during the heresy, specifically for House Devine they have armoured infantry companies that act as guards for various purposes. I don't see why they wouldn't go to war with them. I also don't know that this would be different for some knight houses and that it wouldn't continue after the heresy. You could look at the forge world imperial army guys and run them as storm troopers or whatever they are calling the carapace armoured IG guys these days. That is if you were set on using the rules as written. I would think it would be fun to use them as they are from the heresy books and make the changes necessary to fit in with 8th. For reference see the house Devine story in the War without End collection. |

In Titan Legions a Knight Household card could takes support cards from both Titan Legions (including Tech-Guard/Skitarii) and the Imperial Guard – with the *latter* specifically being stated to represent household troops from the Knight's homeworld. |

Thanks Lads! Volstagg, thanks very much for the links (ahhh, the good old days when the IG still had jump packs). I'm thinking the Scions with the helmeted heads instead of berets might make an appropriate look. |

I field "The Loyal 32" alongside my knights to represent household troops. |
