I have recently applied a medium beige base coat on my 28mm scale alamo. Im now thinking of applying some sort of ink or wash to give it more defintion before drybrushing it further. What kind of ink or wash would you recommend? Its a very large piece so preferably something in a economical size container. Thanks |

The Alamo is limestone, so it chips and scrapes to a bright white. However, dirt seeps into the cracks, and rainwater can discolor it. I would use a brown wash to get in the cracks. Then use more wash along the bottom, to about head height. This darker band is the result of high water. There are a few other spots where you can add some dark wash to reflect changes in the stone. I would then go back and dry brush a light color (almost white on some stones) above the water line. Additionally, the very bottom stones are lighter, and do not have the same discoloration as the ones just above it. The white base and discolored band are really noticeable in photos. Good luck. |

I have the Hudson and Allen Castle and painted it with brown latex house paint and Stained with wood stain. I rather like the effect |

You might want to consider dry brushing with off white or gray after applying the wash to pick out even more detail. I own the model and that's what I did. |
