Royal Regiment so the colors are not reversed. Would the lace have been white or would it be white or yellow depending on the regiment? Or did they do away with lace in North America? What do you do?

I believe the lace base color reflected the metal. White for silver, etc.

Now I'm rethinking that statement as I seem to recall the Coldstream Guards regiment's musicians with white lace with small blue Fleur de Lis pattern. I'm not sure there was a correlation.

"What do you do?"

I ask Brendan.

And here is he's reply.

Lace would have been white for Guards regiments, yellow for the rest (as far as I can tell).

Thanks all. The Troiani painting of the drummer in Cowpens also shows the lace would not have been white for the 7th, so looks like I need to fix that.

Here is some additional information. According to the Royal Uniform warrants (i.e. How it should be done)
The coats of the drummers and fifers of all the royal regiments are to be red, faced and lappelled with blue, and laced with royal lace. The waistcoats, breeches, and lining of the coats, to be of the same colour as that which is ordered for their respective regiments.
The coats of the drummers and fifers of those regiments which are faced with red, are to be white, faced, lappelled, and lined with red; red waistcoats and breeches.
Those of all the other regiments are to be of the colour of the facing of their regiments; faced and lappelled with red.
The waistcoats, breeches, and lining of those which have buff or white coats, are to be red. Those of all the others are to be of the same colour as that which is ordered for the men.
To be laced in such manner as the Colonel shall think fit. The lace to be of the colour of that on the soldiers' coats. The coats have no hanging sleeves behind.

In addition here are examples of the drummers lace for each regiment. Click on the frenzied cap for the American rev war period to go to details of uniforms. These include examples of drummers lace for each regiment.

'Frenzied cap…' I have to admit, I was disappointed.
