Trying to find a set of rules for 25mm soloist. My Swedish army has 3 infantry units of about 24 figs each (50-50 pike/shot), 1 battalion gun and 5 units of cavalry (12 figs). They can go against Polish army I have – but it ends up predictable (perhaps I need to be more imaginative in my scenarios) – Polish cavalry (lot's of Hussars – probably too many but they're fun to paint) beats Swedish cav – Swedish foot defeats Poles foot – then standoff. I would also like to try them against some Imperialists at some point. I have War & Conquest – which I really like for Ancients, but not so much this period. What are thoughts on Warlord's Pike & Shotte? DO I need "Devil's Playground?" If you like it, can you tell me why? Are there others I don't know about that would work here? |

Try "By Fire and sword" it suits your units sizes. Change distances to suit your bases, no big deal. They have (?) a free downlod of bet redone rules you can try. |

You could use the Carnage and Glory Computer Moderated Pike and Shot rules…the system is flexible enough to accommodate any basing system, figure scale or ground scale, as long as there is consistency among units in terms of relative size. I use it for Polish Renaissance, Poles v. Swedes, Turks, Cossacks and Russians and even with the superior ratings for the Polish Hussars…and yes, you can have too many, at least from a historical perspective, the inclusion of fatigue and changes in morale that are all kept by the computer means that while the hussars can usually overcome their primary opponents, if they are called upon to do too much, i.e. engage in continuous combat, they get tired and can very easily be beaten by average Swedish, Russian or Cossack cavalry. The rules force you to use cavalry historically. |

It may be good to try a different pike/shot ratio. 1:3 for later 30yw. I Use Warlord as it's easy to pickup and gives a shortish game. |

I would recommend Pike & Shotte Rules. Hope it helps. As always, comments are appreciated. Take care Andy |
