A bona-fide miniatures wargaming review this week. And, no, I'm NOT doing an Age of Eagles version for the TYW and ECW, but this innovative set of rules is really a top buy for any Pike & Shot aficionado.

Nice review.

You state that this is an extension of Twilight of the Sun King. Is that ruleset required to make use of Twilight of Divine Right or is this a wholly self-contained set of rules?

I believe it is self contained. Modified to suit the period.

I got mine a couple weeks ago in the states. Ordered direct. The rules are self contained and look good.

Thanks guys for confirming.

Great review so completely drawn in by the ‘all in the morale test' idea I just ordered a copy!

A timely review since I have been looking at these rules with some interest. It is a bit odd not to include Lutzen and Rocroi in the TYW scenario book.

WFGamers22 Dec 2018 9:53 a.m. PST

The TYW scenario book is the first of at least two for that war. Lutzen and Rocroi will be in the second one, out next year with luck. There will also be one on the 'Eastern' battles with Poles, Muscovites, Ottomans and the people who fought them. Plus another on the wars of the 1650's, 60's and 70's.

Is there any hope of an American source for these rules and scenario books?

barcah200126 Dec 2018 1:22 p.m. PST

Or offer them for download?

I've ordered these. Like BillyNM I'm totally hooked by the 'all in the morale test' concept that I'm eager to read. It might just be a work of genius.

Marcus Brutus26 Dec 2018 6:11 p.m. PST

I ordered them too. The set seems innovative.

I got my copy on Monday and have read it through a few times. Overall, I think the system looks really interesting and am keen to give it a try. The rules seem reasonably well written and the approach straightforward and accessible. More diagrams and a slightly higher level of production would have been appreciated. Hard to beat for the price.

A couple of things I would have liked to see. There are no generic rating for troops. You can subsume these from the scenario books but I think actual lists would have been helpful. In fact I would take a book of lists over the scenario books since I can research these battles myself. I would also have liked to see a point system included as part of the lists. While we are not competitive gamers we like to play pick up games and a point systems help us do this.
