So, gonna make the leap into Bolt Action with DAK. Have looked at the Perry and Warlord plastics online, but hard to tell which is better.

I think the Perry are a better deal, since the basic box includes the LMG, ATR and 5 cm mortar, as well as a command spru. Plus they also have all the additional options of caps and steel and pith helmets.

But, if I want additional crews, such as HMGs, medium mortars, etc. then I'll need to use a different manufacturer.

So second question, how well do Perry and Warlord (or any others) mix?

Thanks for any help!

As I understand it, the Perry DAK figs are smaller than usual.

Perry miniatures are true 28mm scale and have realistic proportions, while Warlord's are heroic 28mm with thicker limbs, bigger heads and more caricatured facial expressions.

I wouldn't mix them except for vehicle crews, but ymmv.

Oh, and I found the Perry metal supplementary offerings, so I guess that addresses that worry. Seems like they have all I'll need, if I go that way.

I was just about to post about those additional Perry metal packs, but seems like you were a bit faster…

Seems to me the WL offering has the exact same options as the Perry box…

I do have the Perry miniatures myself, and am quite fond of them :-)

I have 6 full strength squads of Perry Desert Rats. Love them. We mix Perry & Warlord all the time. From gaming distance no issues.

The Perry plastic box is better value. If you want even more options than the Perry's provide the Offensive Miniatures are very compatible and nice figures too.

I have Perry Afrika Korps, 8th Army and Italians. They are very nice and, of course, all work well together.

I've got almost the entire Perry WW2 range.
I converted a couple squads of Indians from the 8th Army plastics. Indian engineers clearing minefields (kneeling with bayonets, mine detectors converted using the radio operators head (with earphones)).
I got the exotics: Free French, Senegalese, Ramcke Fallschrimjagers.
I even converted some plastic colonials into Blackshirt militia using their plastic Zouve fezzes.
I use railroad sand on the bases, secured with watered down white glue. This seems to weight the base so as to help keep the figure upright.
And they are coming out with the US in a few months.
It's all about the Perrys.
The Warlord figures aren't bad, they are just a different ascetic. I really appreciate their plastic vehicles and have been getting more and more of them, since the paint has started peeling off of my resin Blitzkrieg tanks.
Spice is the variety of life…

I am planning to re-do my (Perry) DAK with Warlord's…

Warlord's are a bit bulkier and toy like, but somehow, I feel they have more character.

People come in different sizes so should be fine, as long as the weapons are not noticeably bigger.

Vigilant18 Dec 2018 7:38 a.m. PST

Perry are more realistic historically with the correct variety of weapons. Warlord are easier to put together as the weapons are attached to both arms in most cases, but they have too many smg figures to build an accurate unit.

Great info. Thanks guys!

+1 repaint, I also like Warlord's DAK & Desert Rats!

Warlord sculpts are really bad. The Perry stuff is top notch. :)

This "Perry good, Warlord Bad" parroting gets a bit old….Perry's are much more consistent than Warlord (fewer designers), Warlord's quality and size/scale varies – some of the earlier sets are not 1/56th but more like 1/50, and indeed, some of the Warlord metals are hyper-cartoony. However, the one thing about WL is you can pretty much always see a painted example on their site, and what you see is what you get. After that, the choice is yours. Perry's you often have to rely on pics of unpainted figures although with a little bit of inter web detection you can find painted pictures of most of their stuff. The WL DAK (like the majority of WL plastics) are pretty good (I can see why some folk would prefer 1 to the other), and I've seen them both mixed on the table with no problem

This "Perry good, Warlord Bad" parroting gets a bit old…

I think the one area Perry plastics win over Warlord is the variety of figures in the sprues. WL's Standard these days seems to be 6 sprues with 5 bodies in a box of 30 figures, whereas Perry give you 3 sprues with 12 on and a seperate command sprue. That gives a lot more variety. Looking at pics of WL forces that people have built out of the box they all look very samey. To get variety with WL you need to mix an match between boxes, which is fine for the Germans, but tougher with US and Brits. Also not so enamoured with the new WL boxes where all the weapons are attached to the arms, unlike the early boxes where weapons were all seperate. I can understand why they did it, but it makes it tough to get certain weapon fits. For example I struggled to get enough rifle armed figures to do the German winter infantry in greatcoats as an early war force. In the end had to use arms from the Soviet winter set with rifles off the German weapons sprue to get enough rifle armed figures for an early war section.
