I hosted six students at my middle school yesterday afternoon for a game of Regimental Fire and Fury. Our scenario was the attack on Cemetery Ridge by Anderson's division on the second day of the battle.
In the photo below, Wright's brigade and Pegram's battalion of artillery ready for action at the start of the game.
Wright's brigade attacking the Union forces deployed along the Emmitsburg Pike.
Looking north along the Emmitsburg Pike about half way through the battle.
On the Confederate left, Mahone's brigade of Virginians turn the Union right flank.
Posey's Mississippi brigade ran into trouble from concentrated artillery and musket fire and never really got into the action.
Perry's brigade was able to turn the Union left flank, but Wright's brigade was wrecked in its attempt to break through the Union line further to the north.
The game was called after about three hours of playing time. It was declared a Confederate victory as the rebs were able to turn both flanks. A note of interest, our lone female player commanded Mahone's brigade and won every melee she initiated. Her die rolling was pretty unbelievable. However, her Union opponent did role a "10" during one melee which forced a test to see if Mahone was hit. A nine was rolled and Mahone was mortally wounded.
